Best Half-Hole Stirrup Leathers?

Mine are all the plain single-layer leathers, because that’s what I like for looks and ease of adjustment. They stretch a tiny bit, but that doesn’t bother me.

Sorry I can’t offer more guidance about the stitched models. But they are extremely well made, and he’s such a nice guy. I’m sure he can answer any questions you have about bulk, and maybe even provide measurements and pictures. I’ve found him to be really lovely about answering my questions.

This thread had me looking up the information I had from Gary Mundy. This was from a 2014 price list, so you may want to double check that the information is still valid.

It says the traditional English leathers are from 12 oz English butt leather.

The doubled and stitched nylon leathers are about 12.5 oz in thickness and the thread is recessed into the leather to prevent rubbing.

Hope this helps!

I’ve also got leathers from Gary Mundy. Mine are traditional single-layer with 3/4" spaced holes and stitching. They stretched a little bit over the first few months and that’s it. I’ve been using them around 7 years or so and they’re still in great shape.

Someone mentioned the colour being off - when I received mine, they did look alarmingly red, but with use and cleaning they quickly toned down into the perfect colour. (Sorry, can’t remember what the colour was called but it wasn’t a darker brown. My jump saddle was lighter than that and he recommended this reddish brown, which ended up being just right. I ordered a second pair in the darker brown for my dressage saddle and they were as expected.)

Sorry, all I’ve ever gotten from him were regular ones.

Thanks all for the input! I decided to order the Gary Mundy Nylon-lined stirrups. I’ll report back and let you all know how I make out.

I appreciate all the suggestions and shared knowledge.
