Best Hoof Boot Brand?

Renegades did not work for my friend’s horse, which was surprising because his hooves were so normal/average/symmetrical, and she only did light trail riding at the walk on mostly level footing. They were the only boots, of maybe 6 or more kinds she tried, that twisted on him.

I think they may have needed to be tighter, because she was surprised when she saw how hard I clamp the Easyboots on my horses, and I know that Renegades work for a lot of horses.

Thank you for the experiences and advice. It sounds like some people were disappointed with a few of the brands, That’s very helpful information, too.

Barnesthenoble, I took notes from your suggestions. I’ll start with those two and see if they have pony sizes.

Thank you to everyone who replied.

I’m going to add to my previous negative review of my Cavallo boots. I have a recently off-track TB that I pulled shoes from this week. I put the one pair of Cavallos that I had that did fit him on. They lasted one day. The toe “plate” I will call it disconnected from the boot on BOTH boots. And the back of one is tearing out from the sole. What a waste of money. I’m so disappointed in these boots.

YIkes! Thanks for the pictures and info.

Yep, this is what I did. I liked the renegades just fine. Used them on the hind feet of my retired horse and trusted them on steep rutted paths in the GA mountains, not to mention crossing the Etowah and other water/mud crossings. He’s no longer with us, but the new (way too young) retiree uses them on his bare front feet if he has an abscess or an owie moment, so they still get used.

I switched to the scoots because the new pony (Fjord )had umm, significantly larger feet than the 16’3 TB LOL, so new boots were needed and I liked how these looked (tightening the renegades was not my favorite task). Because it is a Fjord I only need them for days where I must do fitness work and the road has been freshly grated and the gravel is not yet packed down. That’s only been a handful of times in the last 2 years, but they have been fine for those times and I did give them a test run on the trails where they worked fine.

But again, what really matters is that they fit. But in any event, I would prefer a boot with an open back so it drains water/mud rather than accumulate it!

Love my Scoot Boots. Not hard to get on and off, great traction on pavement and rocks, drains well, and easy to clean. I use mine 4-5 days a week and they lasted a little over a year. The toes eventually worn down.
