We have an 8:30 with Dr. Davis tomorrow!
egrubbs, sent you a PM
I would go to Morven Park. Even though they had the recent EHV horse, my understanding was that the horse went immediately to the isolation barn that is not attached to the main hospital. They are careful about infection control.
Any update?
Palpated extensively. No pelvic fracture, but had deep SI muscle fasiculations with mild discomfort/pain. Did flexions and flexed clean on everything except right hock came back as a 1/5. 98% certain he has kissing spines due to history on the track and slight atrophy over the SI. I already manage him as one that would have KS, so not much of a problem unless things donāt settle down. Weāre going to come back after the spasms stop and check for a chiro adjustment and see if that could be a factor. If we need to further explore the SI, back rads and possible SI injections were suggested. He didnāt feel mesotherapy was an option or really worth it due to how mild he was. Suggested hocks getting done, which I did. We didnāt do films because he said they wouldnāt show much with such a mild response. Heās an extremely sensitive horse in regards to everything and we think heās just giving us early warnings. Weāre doing 10 days of equioxx and 30 of robaxinā¦of course heās eating it now!!! He said to give 3 days off then 3 days with walking and a canter loop or two and then on day 7 back to full work. Heās feeling better because he came catering and trotting back and forth to me in the field after he got shod this morning. Almost like a showing off and, āhey mommaā¦look at me go!ā Iāve also got a massage lined up for him Sunday to help break up the fascia in the SI and anywhere else he might be tight. Heās already not reactive when I curry him, but that is probably due to the robaxin and equioxx. Hopefully heās on the mend and returns to normal soon!
Glad to hear!
I second gumtree on having drenching guns on hand for administering meds. I have two sizes (20cc and 60cc). They are so much easier to work with.
