Best riding shoes...for hiking?

my ariat terrains fell apart after three months of light use- terrible quality.
LL Beans Maine hunting boots are awesome for hiking, are very waterproof, last forever, and work pretty well in the saddle- adequate heel.

I have the Ariat Terrain H20(waterproof boots. Love them.

I hiked Old Rag in Virginia in my Blundstones. Comfy, grippy, perfect.

Outstanding!

Dismounting and walking for a while is a great way to be nice to your knees and your horse’s back.

Pay attention to the concerns about slipping, that can be deadly to you. Thanks to the person who mentioned the light YakTraks, I have to look into that. I have had two ankle surgeries and have a pin in a toe, I cannot have unstable ankles in a hiking boot or unlace the top two holes or I will fall on a downslope, guaranteed, I love to ride and hike so this is a perfect thread, thanks OP!

Love Ariat Terrains. I ride, do barn work, and hike in them. Yes, they do not have the aggressive tread needed for the real tough hiking terrain, but they should be fine for many applications. Do spend the little extra for the waterproof ones. I had the non-waterproof for my first pair and those did fall apart pretty fast (wore holes in the sides where the foot flexes near the toes). But the H2Os have been great for me. I had my last pair for 6+ years of constant use!

Ariat Terrains. I am very unkind to them have wide feet, rode/walked The Bob and have soaked them through many times while swimming horseback.

Looks like the Ariat Terrain H20 is a winner! I’ll get the YakTraks in case of bad footing (can use those on my other shoes in winter too).

Calamber- you’re welcome!

Very informative thread.

I’ve hiked 4000 ft NH mountains in my Ariat Terrains H2O, and worn them on horse treks where some days you hike as much as you ride. They have good grip and support and are very comfy on hikes.
