Irideon Synergy Tight with Pockets keep both your phone and your tummy from falling out.
hahaha - need for tummy!
Smartpak Knit Breeches are super comfy and the last a long time. I have used sticky seats and they don’t stay sticky nearly as long as the smartpak knits. Be sure to order the knit breech. I am not a fan of the other smartpak breeches. They gap in the back.
ETA - I wonder if they have knits with silicone knee patches only. I’ve only seen the silicone knit full seats. Will check!
Same…I wanted so badly to like the pipers but the size that fits my thighs is way too gappy in the waist. I also noticed the regular Pipers pilled on the inner thigh badly the FIRST time I rode in them. Bummer.
My favorites right now are Kingsland Katja, they are not too thick, not too thin, not too sticky (silicone seat which I usually hate) and just the right rise for my aged body.
You need a helmet, ASTM certified, and it is best to get one fitted at a tack store as it is hard to get a perfect fit just by measurements. A certified and properly fitted helmet is absolutely necessary.
Feet. Right now I use paddock boots and I put half-chaps over them to protect my shin bones. These are also best fitted by a tack store that knows what it is doing. It is possible to go by your normal shoe size for the paddock boots though, and as for the half-chaps most stores on the web ask for a few measurements and hopefully the ones they pick will fit you right (NOT guaranteed, a good return policy is wonderful.) These are perfectly adequate substitutes for knee-high boots for the beginning or amateur rider.
I now enjoy having modern technical fabric breeches, I have a pair for both summer and winter. Some of the summer ones are cooler than bare skin, and my winter pair has a warm lining and a windproof exterior. Since I find the modern technical fabrics very, very, very slippery I buy the silicon full-seat breeches which give me some grip.
I do not use gloves, but I use plain leather reins. I find the rubber reins irritating to my skin so I should wear gloves when I ride with them. Laced reins can also be painful when the horse rips the reins from your hands. With these reins, plaited reins, and web reins definitely use riding gloves, which also come in summer and winter varieties.
they have a belt loop but i really like the Kerrits power sculpt tight for everyday riding. They are comfortable and help hide my lovely thigh bumps better than most other tights.
I really like both Dublin tights and Horze. Hold up better than most my other breeches as well, both well under $100ea
I absolutely love the horze Kira tights, they are flattering, thick and comfy. They are a silicone full seat but they are not very sticky/grippy - I don’t generally like full seats either. They are a good price and wash well.
Honestly my favorite pants to ride in are a pair of black leggings from Victoria’s Secret. No belt loops. Not too hot for the summer (but they are too thin for winter) and the waist band is thick and is an average rise. My favorite.
For those of you who like the Horze tights - do they all have a seam running right through the middle of the crotch? I bought a pair of the active winter tights and, for the most part, I really like them. I’d def be inclined to buy more Horze tights if some are more thoughtfully constricted. But that seam really is unfortunate…
I have the horze active winter tights and I also have an issue with the crotch seem being uncomfortable. The kira tights do not have this issue and are some of the most comfortable pants I have ever worn.
Spud&Saf - great to know! Like I said I actually do like the active winter tights despite the unfortunate seam, so I’d imagine I’ll adore any others they make that are more thoughtfully designed!
Ladies I have found the most comfortable and flattering riding tights oh and they are less than $20.
However the catch is shipping them to the US, there are 3rd party companies that can arrange this.
These tights fit like a glove but feel like pyjamas. I have curried mud caked horses in them and they stay clean. They wash and wear well. There is also a handy pocket for a cell phone on the thigh. They are tights so not grippy but I have ridden cross country in an ancient AP saddle and these breeches and lived to tell the tale.
I would recommend ordering up one size. But damn I love these tights so had to share.
Decathlon has great horse stuff if you want to stock up too! I swear I don’t work for them 😂

I had to get on a horse out of the blue and i was in my lululemon leggings, and I was amazed at how great I felt! I did jump as well. 10/10 recommend.
Love Tropical Rider! They come in custom sizes too.
I have several different brands of tights as I hate dealing with zippers and buttons. The PS of Sweden breggings are my absolute favorite. I have both the full seat and the knee patch. Love them both.
Not a fan of tights, but I do love the Botori tights. They are modeled after yoga pants. Flattering, no sag, &
2 pockets for treats (or I guess phone if you ride with one.)
