How are your PortaGrazers doing now a couple of years along? I am considering buying a couple of these…I do have a horse with eyes watering and an occasional cough, and this is alarming me because I have had a heavey horse before. Other horse has been fine all along, but want to buy two of these so they both eat from them. I like the possibility of hay being easy to soak too.
I’m interested too. I just bought a bigger Handy Hay Net but I still have to wrestle the hay into it.
My barn uses a number of them, they are all older (+/- 5 yrs) and they are all doing fine. One mare bangs hers around like mad, no cracks or otherwise.
A horse with eyes watering and a cough, I am not sure I’d want to “contain” my hay in a solid container. It would keep all the dust “in one place”. I think I would prefer feeding open on the ground or a net, where at least dust can disperse.
I personally don’t like them, but that’s just me. Plus my mare doesn’t like to stick her head in them once the hay gets down a bit.
That’s how I used to feed, out on the ground, but still had that one horse develop heaves. Trying to not do other risky actions now too, like sweeping the barn aisle or throwing down hay when the horses are inside. I like the option the feeder has too of being able to soak the hay, which is something else I am considering. Oddly enough, my other horse has been here for years and has had no trouble, nor have any others that were previously here.
