The Ultra Cruz powder is very non-offensive and I find it doesn’t have ANY smell at all (haven’t tasted it!) so might work.
Good to hear, as I have just ordered some as an alternative.

Thanks for this! The Elevate oil works wonders for my guy. Tried switching to the powder because the oil is so expensive and his symptoms came back within a week.
Would love to try th Santa Cruz - anyone know how to get it in Canada?
They do ship to Canada -
I too have found the Ulra Cruz to be picky eater approved. I simply put a half cup of triple crown senior in with her ration balancer and it sticks nicely and down it goes. It seems to have no smell/taste even though it says apple flavored.
I have a related question, how much Vitamin E to feed my horse? Now that he’s off grass for the winter I want to add in some Vitamin E. He’s a 2 y/o KWPN gelding. He doesn’t get a full grain ration, so he’s getting less than 1000IUs per day from grain.
He doesn’t have any problems, just wondering what the average horse should be getting Vitamin E wise. From looking at Smartpak, all of those supps give only 1000 or 2000 IUs per serving, but it seems like everyone here is talking about supplementing much higher than that? Thoughts?
Simkie -
Thanks for the comparative table - very useful. Do you know what a “dose” of the liquid Elevate measures in ml? My old (almost 33 y-old) does well on it, but it IS pricey!
Thanks again.
I had a look at the UltraCruz online. It says the 4lb bag is a 158 day supply. Does anyone know at what dosage? I am currently feeding 12,000 iu of the Elevate oil per day. Need a mad scientist / math whiz to tell me the equivalent UltraCruz dose so I can figure out how long a package will last me and if it’s worth the exchange rate and shipping from the US
Dose size info is all online.
Elevate WS: 236 mL (8 oz) (118 day supply for 1 horse at maintenance level)
236/118 = 2 mL per dose
UltraCruz: Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha-Tocopherol Acetate):8,000 IU
If you’re feeding 12000 IU of Elevate WS (good lord that must be pricy) you need 36000 IU of the powder to hit the same “bio equivalency” figure. That is quite a lot of volume in powder and perhaps the Emcelle would be a better choice.

Best thing to do is run a blood panel to see if your horse actually need to be supplemented.

If he’s not getting at least the minimally recommended amount of whatever feed he’s getting, either supplement with a ration balancer (I’d add at least 1lb given his age), or move straight to the RB, which would be 2-3lb given his age. That will help some.
That said, I like to add at least 1000IU to a hay-only diet to cover the bases. With the Ultra Cruz, that’s dirt cheap, and isn’t going to hurt anything if he doesn’t really need that much.
They don’t need more unless there are metabolic issues. I’m assuming the poster who mentioned 10,000IU is dealing with EPM treatment, as that’s the recommended dosage while on the medications for it.
Others who might need more than a couple thousand would be EPSM/PSSM horses, or anyone who has some unknown issues that somehow benefits from higher amounts.
Sorry, I miss-typed. My horse is getting 12mls of Elevate per day, which I think is 6,000 iu. Regardless it is very pricey! If it didn’t work so dramatically on his shivers symptoms I wouldn’t be doing it LOL
I used to be on Elevate but switched to Santa Cruz (after clearing with vet). Yes, my horse was low, but isn’t anymore. Staying on maintenance dose of 2000IU/day- no other issues metabolically.

Yup. And shivers. Double-whammy.
Adding this spreadsheet I made here too for posterity: feel free to add any additional sources you find. See tabs for natural, synthetic etc

If you need a joint + multivitamin, I think that looks like a good product. I use a similar product, the UltraCruz Joint Care. It has a hard to find combo of glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, HA, Cetyl-M and boswelia in fairly high doses and is not unreasonably priced. Without this (or somewhat similar supplement, like Smart Flex Resilience III, which does not have Cetyl M or boswelia), I would say that my mare is 20% “creakier”. I am putting off going the injection route for now.
