I’m usually a Hunter girl through and through but my last pair only lasted two years before they split and same with the last two pairs of Joules. I prefer a mid calf height that is easy to slip on and off for rinsing, cleaning stalls and when it monsoons. I am in Florida so if it were something that kept my feet cool too that would be great!
Following because I need some, too!
how often are you wearing them?
ive never had joules last more than a year and a half; that just seems par for the course if you use them daily for a few hours. i can burn through a pair in less than a month if it is daily, hard wear (like working 7-12 hrs).
i have a pair of mudruckers that are 2 yrs old now that are still almost like new… unfortunately theyre so much hotter and heavier than the joules, but i guess that’s the price you pay.
IMHO, i don’t see how anyone could expect rubber/waterproof boots to last more than two years of daily use – and if they do, i think you’re just lucky. lots of stress and degradation; urine/ammonia, water exposure, UV/sun exposure, etc.
I have a pair of short pullon Bogs, and they have held up, have a good foot bed and give my feet support.
I would recommend them!

I wouldn’t call them cool - because they are rubber - but we have had 100 degree weather here lately and they were ok.

Are they wide, Fred? I have broad feet, and most bootlets like those are too narrow. But - they do look like NO itchy hay, shavings or straw would ease down past the neoprene to irritate my feet, so…?

I was worried someone was going to say this! I guess gone are the days of hunters lasting me 5+ years! I will just have to stock up on sale boots. I did look at the muckboot style but they do look hot (and not nearly as lovely looking as Joules/Hunters!)
Thanks for the comments
If you can find them, Le Chameau wellies are fantastic. Not cheap, but certainly last a lot longer than 2 years!
I just get men’s rubber boots with reinforced toes at Walmart. You can put insoles in them if you need more support. But I don’t like working in rubber boots unless there is serious mud, so do most of my work in paddock boots.
I found none of the pricey equestrian brands have reinforced toes, and they all feel as thin and unsupportive as the $5 gumboots I wore as a kid, so have never seen the point.
Bogs has a summer version. I haven’t tried them but I love Bogs Originals so might be worth a shot.
In the summer I use LL Bean duck boot mocs. If your mud isn’t deep they would likely be fine. I do a lot of mud control here so I never need anything higher in the summer, if I do I just wear my Bogs which I don’t find to be that hot.
