Bibs

My horse chews any blankets and wraps that we put on him so I am looking into chewing bibs. I found a few plastic ones fro reasonable prices but would like some input on any experience you guys have had. Do they work, what ones have you tried, any good/bad experiences with them? We tried a muzzle last winter and my horse couldn’t figure out how to eat with it on.

Any input welcome, thanks!

I have only seen them used on horses that are crosstied, never seen one on a horse that was loose in a stall or turned out. Wrap Last (spray) may help. Most feed and tack stores carry it.

Most folks round here make a bib from hay twine plastic or rope works ok loop it around the back of the halter noseband & trim to below bottom lip if its to long, easy to redo when it gets dirty and cheap, doesnt get in feed or water much. May provide grabing strap for other geldings in pasture however

I had to use a bib on my wrap eater when he was injured. I had two that were the neoprene and nylon type. He stuck the first one through the bars to his neighbor, who ripped it off (in pieces), so he could then eat his wraps off. The second one was destroyed within the first week at a rehab facility that we sent him to. I showed up to find a few remaining pieces in his stall, plus some vet wrap (ate his wraps off again…). We think he stood on it that time.

The rehab gal put one of the plastic ones on and that worked. Cheap, too! So I have one on hand now in case I ever need it again.

Blanket eating…I use raplast. But I will say it didn’t stop the dedicated wrap eater. I used straight Tabasco and he still ate them off! Bib was the only thing that worked.
