Bill introduced to ban horse slaughter and transport for slaughter

It feels like no win.

People afford horses but don’t bother to ensure they put down, or move them on to lower standards of care where they end up as used up, broken down, and often with inadequate food.

Save for euthanasia, support programs that help people afford it.

Heaven knows the “necessary evil” folks are as bad as sellers who buy blind terrified animals and run them through auctions surely into the hands of kill buyers filling up a trailer.

Pregnant mares, foals, mustangs. All get into kill buyers hands.

I never see people online support slaughter except horse people here. Chilling.

Worse, no one in the rescue biz has a reality check when they parade a sick horse and set a goal of $10k. I’ve suggested they fund affordable euthanasia or at least give it a rest then euthanize because some cheap owner from beginning to end of that horse’s life let him down.

Necessary evil. I guess 12 horses dying at Churchill Downs falls in that category, and we know the ethics of that portion of the horse industry.

We need to chip horses to see the path they’ve taken to end up in slaughter-bound trailers.

I saw an instagram where a family bought an ex racehorse breeding farm and sought out the 12 or so horses raised there that were still possibly alive. They found one.

I worked at a facility that euthanized rather than sold down into poor circumstances. I know a gal who was sure she gave her now-lame heart horse to a good friend and was shocked years later to see him in a state of wretchedness.

I guess money talks and people are gladly blind to legitimate suffering

As awful as it is to say, banning all slaughter would be a mistake. Make transport and the killing methods more humane but I can’t fathom where all the horses will go or how the end will come. It is bad enough now.

You had me until the slam on the racing industry. Now your whole argument is out the window

Sadly they are very complicit.

It’s incredibly sad to see racing apologists populate horse boards like they really love horses. I’ve retrained many ottb and know track life. You think the money goes into losing and broken horses? You think running a long yearling off its feet is apt?

Incredulous to read your sycophancy.

Apt? I don’t think that’s the word you meant.
