Bit advice??

Thank you all for the suggestions - I will try her in a mullen and see what she thinks. I don’t think she has a low palette (I asked my vet to look at her) but she is an opinionated mare. I like her in a curb chain for those wild hunts but she gets a bit snarky about it on slow days.

I finally figured out the low palette thing and bought her a Myler “jointed mullen” and she became a different horse. .

I’ve never seen this bit in person - is there some flex in the mouthpiece between the joints, just less than a snaffle?

Yes, the bit flexes and drapes slightly over the tongue. I used that bit on a horse who had a low palate for awhile and he liked it well enough. In the end, I hunted him bitless. Sounds scary but on him taking the bit out of the equation made him much calmer and more sensible.
