Bladder stones soychlor

Yeah that’s what we did with my horse but his wasn’t nearly that large.
So your vet thinks he will make another one soon or that he won’t?

He think he will make another. I agree. But we are going to try and prevent that!

It will be very interesting to see if any of our horses create a new one after following all the research we have done to a T. Fingers crossed and sending good thoughts for your horse as he has the surgery. Let us know how it goes.

His surgery went well. He is now 3 weeks post op and he is recovering well. Still has some sheath edema ( was huge for a while) but that is slowly getting better.
I’m experimenting with his diet and a product called pasturechlor right now. So far I have been able to get his urine PH down to neutral or slightly acidic. I’ll keep you all updated as this could be helpful!

Are you testing his urine or how exactly do you see what ph it is at? I would like to monito my guy.
He also had some sheath edema for a few weeks and it was all gunky but it all resolved itself nicely.
Glad your horse is doing well and everything went smoothly!

Someone asked if I had Minnow tested for Phosphorus. I did not. When we went to Cornell the first time, they did not have a dietician on staff. The second time, they did, thank god. So, we tested his hay at the barn he was at (and it was full of alfalfa, though I was told it was not or I would have taken him off it after the first stone). So I moved him to a new barn, where the hay tested had much lower calcium in it. In addition, the dietician at Cornell decreased his grain (he’s on Sentinel LS) to try to decrease the calcium wherever we could. He had also done a lot of research on Ca/P balance, and said that Minnow’s intake was too low, which we should change since he has trouble metabolizing Ca. So, I found a wheat bran that was high in phosphorous to supplement his grain decrease. I had him scoped in January, and he was sediment and stone free (last stone was in November of 2016), but I want to scope him again in August, just to make sure he’s not building anything in there, and flush if he is. It’s so scary, because he doesn’t show symptoms until the stone has formed, so it can’t just be flushed out.

How are your horses doing? Just wanted to get an update to see if any changes. My horse has a possible urinary tract infection/inflammation. Had blood and urine sample done, though not a sterile one, so am told the readings are not accurate, but he definitely has something going on. His hind legs and sheath started swelling a month ago, but have since gone down, and I find him to be peeing more frequently. We are doing a course of antibiotics, and trying to get him started on ammonium chloride (to acidify the urine). Also trying to get the water tested as I am still unsure about the quality of it and how it may be affecting him. Vet doesn’t feel he would have created any stones this quick, but wants to try a sterile urine sample after the antibiotics and go from there.
