Blanket recommendations for a highish-withered horse living in Maine, USA? *Update within!*

I agree the Wug is the best for this type of conformation.

A slight hijack - what would y’all suggest besides Rambo/Rhino for a high withered, massive shouldered horse who is shaped more like a slug than a horse? I have him in an 84 Rambo now and it just is not cut high enough for his withers, it puts a lot of pressure on them. I love Rambos but can’t seem to find a cut that fits him well.

have you tried the Horseware XLs (I think it’s in the Amigo line)? Not an issue I have but I’ve heard good things.

Yup. There are a lot of design flaws that Horseware afficiandos turn a blind eye to. I like both the Schneiders and Weatherbeetas for the wither relief features, and the detachable neck covers offer much better flexibity: if there’s no windchill or precip you can leave them off. If there is windchill and / or precip, attach them, and they provide more warmth and protection than the Wug.

I haven’t tried the XL yet - it doesn’t appear available at Dover or Smartpak. Hmm… Might be worth a shot, thank you! I wasn’t even aware they had an XL line. I’m not a big fan of the Amigo line, I had to repair several of them almost immediately (mostly just hardware reinforcement) but I wonder if I can find one used nearby.

I still really like Rambo/Rhino, but wish my guy fit in them better.

Stateline and Adams have the Amigo XLs. Stateline usually has best pricing.

I have the XL for my Friesian cross. It’s definitely better quality than the Amigo Hero line if that’s any help. I think the surcingles run big but YMMV

My TB really likes the padded wither relief on the WB blankets. I think the Schneiders senior blankets have a similar feature?

UPDATE! Thank you guys so much for all of your recommendations! SHE PASSED and she came home yesterday! Here is a pic of Ms. Ginger in her new midweight outfit for tax, right after I popped her halter on to take her inside. Fits her perfectly and she has a Wug for an extreme weather heavyweight that she hasn’t had occasion to try on yet. The recommendations were spot on - thanks again!!
