Blanketing: Neck Cover/High Neck vs No Neck Cover

Anyone have/had something like this? The Horseware Amigo All-In-One type of sheet and blanket. It has no seams and it is all one piece including the full neck. It’s available as a sheet (no fill) or with various fills (medium or heavy) :

I liked the all-in-one styles for my late TB. He was extremely sensitive in front of his withers, and regular blankets sat right where he was most touchy. High neck and all-in-one cuts were a life saver for him.

Thanks  Did your all-in-one have the V-front closures? Or the 2 front straps? I’ve seen these Amigos with both and not sure why (maybe different years?) Horse in question has big chest and shoulders.

I thought my blanket was rubbing my horse’s mane, then caught him rubbing it on the dutch door opening. So I have the nice long mane with a gap thing going. Fortunately he is a bit short-backed, so I pull my show pad forward a tad and it kind of camouflages the gap.

The all-in-one I had was a Shires, with the buckle and snap front. I did appreciate that it was more adjustable than the Horseware. I like the V-front snap closure, but you really don’t get much adjustability with it. Unfortunately, I think they discontinued that style.

I use the Rambo/Amigo lines with the detachable necks. I quite like the Wug cut, but my current horses have high neck sets, or very thick stallion necks that make the fit of them very poor.

I tend to not use the necks on sheets or medium, but always on heavy for my unclipped ones. Once they’re body clipped, they always get a neck.

I’ve used Rambos for 15+ years but I felt like the quality has declined after having a few leak and one tore badly when it shouldn’t have. Year before last I started buying Premier Equine blankets from England and feel like they are MUCH better quality for half the price. I always get the detachable necks because it gives me more options based on the weather conditions, and the Premier necks are easy to put on and take off. I usually get the Buster line, but they do run a size large so size down. I still have a few Rambo Wugs but sometimes they can get a little too warm on those “in-between” days, so the removable necks work a lot better for my guys.

I have both high necks (mare, full clip) and regulars (gelding, low trace clip). The regulars rub out a bit of his mane right in front of the withers, high necks dont rub her at all. I dont put necks on anything. Mine arent out for long periods of time - 5 hours max at a pop. I’ll come out later at night and throw them back out while I do chores. If the mare lived out, she would need a full neck.

I am obsessed with my Premier blankets - the features are freaking amazing.

I used to have all Horseware (a mix of Rambo, Rhino and Amigo) but the Premiers fit so much better that I have entirely switched over.

My older OTTB HATES neck covers, so the only neck cover he has is an attached one and it is his heavyweight. His sheet has a high neck since that is the blanket he ends up wearing the most. He has a super thick but not long mane and I have not noticed any rubbing. The medium is a regular neck but they sell attachments for it.

Being in the USA, it doesn’t make much sense to order one of theirs to try - especially if you need to return it or exchange for a different size :frowning:

I live in Virginia and was lucky enough to have friends that had the blankets so I could try them on my horse for sizing. I will say they run a bit full. I just created a cart with another HW blanket plus a neck cover for my younger OTTB that likes to snuggle up, and the shipping was only 12 pounds. The resale value over here is pretty good, so I’d probably just resell if one didn’t fit.

MTA: the cost is so low that it is worth it to me to buy them compared to Rambos, especially because the fit is SO much better
