Bleeping Zippers!! Grr..how much $$/how long does it take? (Portland area)

Let me preface this by saying, I love my La Mundial zipper field boots. I really do. They fit beautifully and have been problem free from day one.

Until this morning.

##&^@#$^%* Zipper Broke! 10 minutes before my lesson. So… what are the options for fixing them?

There is one reputable repair place in my general area (a 45 minute drive…without rush hour/after work traffic. Sigh. This is not the week I wanted to try that drive.

Can anyone give me a ball park cost figure and time to repair?

Alternately, can anyone in the Portland Oregon area recommend a quality place to have them fixed?

There is a fabulous place to repair boots closer to you than Portland - AA Orchards Shoe Repair at 10708 NE 4th Plain Rd in the Orchards area of Vancouver. The area looks sketchy to say the least but the the repairs are done super well and its affordable and quick. He’s replaced zippers on multiple pairs of boots for us (and we’ve never had to have any of his zippers replaced).

Oh, that sounds so much better than Lake Grove! I’ll give them a call in the AM and see if they can squeeze me in this week. I need them fixed by the first week of October…otherwise, I’ll have one custom boot and one aged, too short Ariat field boot on!! Not a good look. Or feel.

My zipper cost around 80 to replace, but they put a much better one in and I haven’t had issues since.

These guys are the best! http://www.behindthebitblog.com/2009/05/boot-repair-blues-getting-boots-fixed.html

Honestly, those zippered boots are just a POS. I will fight having to purchase them…

Stolen- I agree to a point–these are fully custom boots and literally fit like a glove. I adore them. I have always had pull-ons and the break in…oh, the break in! These had no break in period. I just think the zipper was too puny to hold up. I’ve gotten great recommendations for the place mentioned by eaconlee, so I’m going with them. I’m hoping they can refurbish my old pull on boots, too!

I am irritated that the boot companies decided to make only zipper boots and left all of us having to deal with replacing zippers. I bought a pair of pull on boots when I go through my current pair, but after this it is custom or zippers. Hate the options.

if stuck for a place to get tall boots repaired

ask a motorcycle cop

They can usually put you on to who handles the department repairs.

In Seattle George Swanson Shoe repair, in Wallingford is the place to go. When Mr George Jr was near passing, many motorcycle cops came to his home to pay respects.

He , and son Dan, did many re-sole and gussetings on my boots over the years

I too have gone back to my pull on boots…not as tight fitting but no more issues with damn zippers! It is pi$$ing me off that we pay all kinds of money for these boots and they all put crap zippers in them!

Pisano’s, which I think is in Pennsylvania. Look at www.ridingbootrepair.com. I gave a pair of boots to a kid in our barn and for about $100 she got 2 new zippers and elastic gussets put in. Came back nice and clean/shiny, too!
