Blocker ties?

I was at a barn where a higher up decided all horses must be tied using blocker rings no exception, almost every horse had them figured out within 6 weeks and would either pull enough to graze or let themselves loose. When we started adding a knot to the end of the line or just tie the higher ups would yell at us that that wasn’t ok. Apparently a horse wander into a lesson multiple times a week was a better choice.

My gelding would pull himself free by grabbing and tugging at the rope but as soon as he was free his ground tying training came into play so he would just stand.

I was trying to find the video of Ray Hunt or Tom Dorrance teaching a horse to tie. He used a 30 foot lead on a slip knot of some kind (which worked like a blocker tie) and the horse soon got tired of going backwards getting nowhere.

You can increase tension in a Blocker a lot by running the rope through again.

I agree that horses need to be taught how to tie up before they are actually tied up.
