Boarding Barns in or near West Lafayette, IN

Your PM has more options and contact info! You will have to tweak your " must haves" as my daughter has. Bringing a trainer in from Indy and showing with her instead of leaving the horse with her and driving an hour each time. I hope one of the options suits your needs AND wants! The nice thing is that Purdue Vet care is soooo close!

you’ve gotten lots of good suggestions about barns, I’ll answer your ride outside in Indiana winter question.

Indiana winters tend to start off really really wet and muddy which can make not having an outdoor or a good spot of drainage difficult. After that it freezes solid which makes riding outside at all difficult since it freezes in uneven muddy chunks. If we get a good snow you can ride on that for a week or two but we don’t get a ton of snow here usually. Last winter was fairly mild but very wet. If you don’t have an indoor you may be limited to walking or nothing at all depending on how you feel about footing for weeks at a time, and you need to be well dressed as it can be cold and windy.

All the people I know without indoors take a month off during the frozen time and/or trailer out to a barn with an indoor once a week.

I ride without an arena through the winter
 But I compromise.
I have use of a great outdoor, that helps a TON! I can ride regularly until like mid December ish. (Maybe some rides are just walking due to weather/footing/motivation to ride in the cold. After mid December I ride like 1 once a week until mid February or so. Any warmer-than-average day- I ride. Whether I was planning on it or not! Then I bring them back into a full workload (which is an average of 4 rides/week/horse.)

When I was in HS I used to trailer to an indoor (20 mins one way) 3 days a week with 2 horses all winter. I couldn’t do that now if I wanted to.

Basically, if you can’t be at a place with an indoor try to find one with a good outdoor. (Or be good with either time off or trailer to an indoor)

Rosebud Ranch is an awesome facility!!! And they really care about your horse. They have indoor and outdoor boarding. The footing in the indoor is some of the best and they have a pretty nice outdoor as well. It is located in Brookston which is about 15 from purdue.

Hey OP! Did you end up finding somewhere? I am a Purdue student looking to relocate my horses closer to campus.
