Bockmann Trailers?

If I’m not mistaken, Maple Lane is the North American importer and I believe that the two US dealers get their stock from Maple Lane. I did visit with Traveled Lane in MD a number of years ago and they were very nice folks. But for the OP, clearly “location, location, location…” applies.

Pretty sure I just bought a used 2016 Champion R. Just waiting to run the decision by hubby before sending the deposit.

Thanks to all for their feedback (and encouragement, lol)! My trailer is now home. I haven’t hauled my mare yet, but after the 6-hour drive home, I’m quite pleased with how the trailer towed and how our 10-yr-old Sante Fe drove. Very excited for the adventures that lay ahead! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Thank you! I’m thrilled! I feel like such an independent adult, lol! (I’m 38.)

Took Winnie for a short test ride today. My heart giggled seeing her face in the window as we went down the road. Hauled about the same with her in it as it did empty.

I bought the trailer through a FB post, didn’t see it in person until I arrived to haul it 6+ hours home. I’m far beyond satisfied!

Congratulations - and way to go finding a used one! That’s hard to do.

Thanks! I was ON IT! Had been keeping a close eye out for months, and sealed the deal with a deposit within a day of the ad posting. The seller had a couple of calls hours later. It’s why I feel okay about spending what I did. I’m pretty sure I could get my money back in a month or less.

I am picking up my used Bochmann on Thursday and not sure of the ball size for a Duo. Does anyone know the ball size??

From Maple Lanes’ website:

  • 2”³ ball set at 17-19”³ measured from the top of the ball to the ground, depending on the trailer model being towed
Congrats on your new trailer! Loving my Champion!

Does anyone here have the Portax LSR? I’m curious about the mixed press for the size of horse that will fit. On Maple Lane’s site, I see “medium horse up to 16h” but on some of the European sites I see “up to 16.2h” Has anyone had a 16.1 - 16.2 horse on the Portax LSR that could report out on the fit?

This is interesting. I’m looking at the Portax LK and I live in Los Angeles, so heat is really a big concern for me. Was it complicated adding these windows? Do you think it might be easier to install fans? the LK has two sets of windows on each side, but they end at the breast bar. The new Neo models have some new fangled design with the windows at the horse’s head but I’m still not sure when those are coming.

I’m also debating hard about whether I need the front unload ramp or not. I would definitely have some hauls alone. But maybe if I just take the time to really train my horses to unload quietly, I don’t need it?

Not sure if it’s helpful to you, @greysfordays, but I haul exclusively alone in my Champion, and I find it a very easy experience all around. Disclaimer: my Winnie B is a great loader/hauler. I really like the option to use the ramp or open the door for a step-up. I thought Win would prefer a step-up, as it’s what she hauled in for a year with my Sis. However, I’ve found she really prefers the ramp, especially backing out. She used to rush just a little backing out, but she’s learned to trust the ramp (long ramp makes a pretty gentle incline), and unloads like she’s modelling the trailer’s feature now.

So are you undoing the back bar and running to the front to back her down or has she learned to just walk backwards on her own? My horse is 18h and generally very good about trailering, but he is also a spooky mother sometimes, and I just assume when I was alone at night is when he would choose to be an idiot.

@greysfordays I open the ramp, walk up to her head, untie her and hold the shank loosely as I go back and undo the butt bar. I have ahold of her should she decide to come backward quickly (though that’s not something she’s ever really done). Then take a couple of steps back to her head to ask her to back slowly out.

She’s good now about backing out straight, but when she was first learning the ramp, she was backing out crookedly (toward the near edge of the ramp), so after undoing the butt bar, I’d also move the divider over so I could angle her more easily toward the center of the ramp.

That’s really helpful, thank you. And sorry for hijacking the thread

No worries at all! I don’t think it’s hijacking at all. I know when I started looking into trailers and googled Böckmann trailers, there were some COTH discussions that came up. Who knows what furute readers will find helpful?

Have you looked at EquiTrek? Looking at Day Treka…hauling from WA to SoCAl.

No, EquiTrek wasn’t an option way back when I was looking at trailers. I no longer own horses at this point, so I’m not up on what’s actually available on the market. Sorry I cannot help.

Thanks!

Maple Lane Trailers -
Six years ago they offered to comp me tickets to the Canadian Royal Ag Fair if I decided to come up and meet them there.

I bought my Nissan Murano based on conversations with them and their rec for towing.

Then I realized that I am a danger to myself and others when I drive any vehicle, and also that I am poor, so it never panned out. But great customer service so far
