Bon Balou vs bliss

Did anyone who attended the testings care to comment on their gallop & XC portion? Seems to be the most difficult to obtain footage of.

Hi there- I attended the test, and saw BB and Bliss do the x-country portion. I know BB scored really high for rideability and gallop- I had a blast watching him, he looked like he was really having fun out there! I know the test riders loved him. FWIW, my mare gave birth to a Bon Balou colt in May and I am over the moon with him- I showed video of him to Jeff Cook and he was so impressed- he was up within the first half hour and eating within the first hour. His canter at 10 days was more balanced than most- auto lead changes and his personality… OMG. he is to die for. He is so friendly, curious, not at all spooky and SO sweet. BB really came through there- although my mare has a great personality too. He also has a WAY better hunter trot than his mother, haha, and he loves to jump the poles on the ground in the indoor when I have to turn him out if its been raining- he makes a little course of whatever is on the ground and once he went over a crossrail and his form was perfect. Of course the one day I dont have my camera. He also has more engine than mom, especially in the hind end- which is what I wanted from Bon Balou. I should show you video of his gallop, it is impressive.

as I mentioned before, I do have my thoughts/personal opinions, so feel free to PM me!

I wasn’t there, but from the scoresheet (and I hope I am interpreting this correctly - it is in German):

Bon Balou received 9.0 for cross-country gallop from the training judge, and 9.50 for cross-country gallop from the test judges. He got 8.5 from the training judge for cross-country jumping, and 9.0 for cross-country jumping technique from the test judges.

Bliss received 8.5 for cross-country gallop from the training judge, and 9.0 for cross-country gallop from the test judges. He got 8.5 from the training judge for cross-country jumping, and 8.25 for cross-country jumping technique from the test judges.

Hope this helps!

I wonder what they’re looking for in the gallop? BB is lovely, however, having now watched his XC ‘gallop’ its not what I’d consider a 9 - but then again I’m viewing it from a riders perspective ( what I want to ride on XC or on a hunt) who is spoiled when it comes to gallop, again, for an XC horse - not a dressage or jumper -

Perhaps this will help provide an explanation for how the different areas are scored and what the judges are looking for:

It is the excerpt from the blog I wrote last year during the Testing, and we literally translated the judging requirements from German to English. If you scroll down through the translation, the XC portion is at the bottom. Hope it helps.

Just the information I was hoping for  Thank you.
