I’d bet that’s a large factor.
My youth was spent rocking the big bell-bottomed jeans, but I’m a young adult now and very much on the skinny-jeans train. I think flare and boot cut jeans are starting to come back though. But I am happy to walk around in my breeches and knee-high socks anywhere at all.
I have read articles that flares are coming back, but have seen very little evidence of it in my daily existence (although I see we are both in the southeast, so perhaps it’s different elsewhere in the country?) Anyway, I figure that if designers are going to try to copy equestrian styles, I can at least walk around in public rocking the authentics! I am not bothered by appearing in public in breeches, and I have been known to wear tall boots with spurs into the grocery store. Once I returned home from grocery shopping to find a smear of dirt on my face, and that crossed a line for me
lol!
I moved here 7 months ago from Ohio, so it must be other parts of the country.
I would always meet my mom for dinner after riding, like weekly, it drove her nuts.
Hey now, my flares have never gone out of style. Skinny jeans are awful. They look fine on other people, but on me no thank you unless they are not super skin tight. Almost all my jeans are still flare (although not the 70s flare) or a couple bootcut styles. Come to think of it, none of my friends are into the whole skinny jean phase and we are all 30-35 range.
I went into a beauty brands the other day after the barn. I forgot to stomp off my boots and tracked in just a smidge of dirt and they started throwing a fit. I now keep sneakers in my car in case my boots get ultra muddy.
I’m 29, so not far off! I much prefer skinny jeans, I find them far more comfortable, and I enjoy the ends not getting soaked and dirty during rain.
They shouldn’t be super skin tight anyway, unless they’re a very stretchy material (jeggings, anyone?), there’s been a couple articles over the years showing that those ones actually seriously damage your health, cutting off circulation in the legs, etc.
The “technical” term is the Kentucky jodhpur and I personally love mine! I ride h/j but my parents love Saddlebreds and I picked up a few pairs at the World Championship Horse Show a few years. They fit fine under my half chaps and in my tall boots or I use elastic straps under my paddock boots to keep them from riding up. My favorite aspect though is that the knee patch come up several inches higher than on regular breeches, so I get a little more grip from them. And they make your legs look really long when you’re riding
They’re just yoga pants with a knee patch.
I have Kerrits bootcuts that I wear once the humidity starts going up, as they are infinitely easier to pull off then skin-tight tights. My half chaps fit over them just fine, only a smidge snugger than with tights.
