Bored and looking for showing opinions about color

Oh hell, I earned my bronze and a regional championship at third in a navy coat and field boots and black VELVET pads, because the black looked so good on this grey mare and the next mare. Training through second with tan breeches.

I can say, and I’ve scribed enough to say, judges don’t care what you’re wearing if you’re reasonably following the rules… Sharp turnout can catch their eye but it won’t save you from a bad ride.

I love the look for velvet pads. My show pads are velvet and a faux suede type finish (only bc the first velvet pad was a used pad and I can’t find another). And agreed I love that dressage it not turnout focused like hunters, but it’s also just fun having nice things and making your horse look nice. It’s not like I get any joy from the light colored breeches and although I recently learned you can branch out from a white shirt they tend to not be flattered so he might as well look good.

Ha! So true! I got my Fourth reserve championship in admittedly white breeches and dressage boots but still in my black velvet pad. My friends joked that I should have an Elvis painting on them! Hahahahaha! But they looked so good on my mare and sort of set us apart from the “sea of white pads”. YES, I had two! You can branch from the shirts as long as you can argue that you’re within the rules. Hunter peeps have this DOWN these days and have really nice shirts for the ring! If you’re within the rules, the judge will notice you if you’re not “the bay horse in a white pad, black coat, white shirt and stock tie”. They may not score you any differently, but they’ll notice you in the sea of white pads, black coats, white shirts and bay horses.

I have a buckskin that looked lovely in cream. I had brown tack a cream saddle pad, cream breeches brown boots and a black coat and helmet. It was a very pretty look I thought. I think I would go with a cream pad and breeches with that lovely green coat.
