Boyd Martin Canadian Clinic Notes

How great! That’s a very cool thing.

Well, I’m still paying $100 for private lessons with Stephen Bradley, so.

Not to say that Boyd isn’t great, of course :wink:Just seems like a lot for a largish group in a clinic setting. I certainly didn’t pay that much for my two clinics with him, one of which was about four or five years ago, the other one was more like 15 years ago – smaller groups for both, three or four riders?

It would certainly be worth it for a private lesson, though!

Keep in mind that’s CND. We pay $350 + normally for big names like that.

Since moving back to Ontario from NC, I’ve been mindboggled at the prices here.

There is a farm that pretty much holds a monopoly in a small military town. The coach has limited creditentals, and zero showing history that I can see. Ships the horses 4 hours away for any shows instead of two hours because it’s more competitive. Lessons cost more with them and any of their coaches, then it did for a 45min private with Will F or Bobby C.

Also, if you look at his website, it explicitly says what his prices were for lessons AND auditing. It’s not something that has been randomly made up. Watching it, I would’ve been happy to pay that for what I got out of it. Definitely worth it

I’m glad you got so much out of it!

My finances are limited, so I have to figure out whether it’s worth it for me, or whether I would be better off just auditing

I got a tonne out of auditing, I wanted to ride but didn’t get in the lottery sadly.

Shame that I didn’t see it posted anywhere…

I can count the number of our Prelim riders who can do a proper leg yield on less than one hand. Even taking into account show nerves (rider or horse), test in the small ring, or other factors, it’s a consistent problem year after year. I don’t know if it’s because the horse is just getting moved up faster than its flatwork can keep up, or they truly don’t know how to ride/train it.

Follow the OEA page and Ontario Eventing Support Group page on Facebook and/or Instagram, and if you use WhatsApp you can join the OEA group. They had it all over social media as soon as it was announced.

I couldn’t go because I was working at the Royal but I did know about it.

Really, it was posted on their FB, Instagram, webpage and sent out via email blast and What’sapp. Plus it was shared dozens of time online. Sorry you missed it!

Here’s the Whatsapp channel:
