So we are headed to a small “B” show this weekend. I’m a very non-pro braider, but I can do a decent enough job to look respectable at smaller shows. I have a barnmate who wants me to braid for her (normally I just do my own), but I thought I’d undertake the challenge. However, she has a paint (chestnut and white). The mane is mostly white with a two inch patch of black. What color should I use for that mane? I own a grey horse and always do light blue :)!!. I also have chestnut, black and grey yarn in my “tool kit” colors, but am open to getting additional colors. My braids aren’t stellar enough to really show off contrasting colors, but I’m not sure what other colors would go. Thoughts?
Chestnut paint with a black mane?
You have three options - grey/white yarn all the way (small section of contrast), colored (black? chestnut?) yarn all the way (mostly contrast) or switch with the colors. I personally think contrasting yarn is cool on a paint
Edit: Oops sorry! Just read the last line. I would go ahead and switch colors with his mane. You might have a braid or two with noticeable contrast.
If it were my own horse, I would be willing to play more with contrast :). But I just want to play conservative to ensure that everything looks nice for my friend.
Match the mane. I wouldn’t go for contrasting yarn unless your braiding is perfect and the horse’s neck is stellar. Have fun! He will look pretty with matching yarn!
Match the mane.
Match the mane. Use white on the white sections and black on the black sections.
