Breast Reduction Recovery

Thank you for this. I was able to find another plastic surgeon who does breast reduction using liposuction. I was not comfortable w the first one I found, even though I spoke w a patient of his who was very happy w him. It is scheduled for next month. I’m only laid up for a day or two from daily life. I really can’t wait and am hoping it helps resolve a lot of my problems. This plastic surgeon is hopeful it will.

@Moss, I wonder if liposuction is an option for you. PubMed has lots of positive information about it. It is not covered by insurance, unfortunately. I’m having it done for the reasons you mentioned.

My breast reduction is next week. The surgeon recommended Wanayou bras for recovery. I’m having trouble finding the size chart that correlates band size to rib cage measurements. She recommended a small and I can’t find that anywhere. Does anyone have a recommendation??? No underwire, front zip…. I’m calling the office but thought I’d check here.

No suggestions on those, but I wore the Knix Post Surgery bra after mine, before going to one of their Catalyst front zips and then eventually bralettes and soft sports bras.
Depending on your size, I have a few I would be happy to send you for cost of postage? Just PM me. I also LIVED in a set of these pajamas after surgery.

I also took these post-surgery and thought they helped! https://a.co/d/4qWfCzQ

I had my liposuction procedure today. When I woke up, initially I had a fair amount of pain. I was groggy and it really hurt. I think they gave me 1/2 a Percocet. It’s now seven hours later- I have NO pain, have taken nothing else, and have been to the barn. I’m impressed. And grateful to all who have shared here.

I thought I’d add…when I went to see my PCP, he was very supportive. He did recommend surgery…I asked why. He said insurance would pay for it as opposed to me paying out of pocket. I can’t afford the down time surgery would require, which he understood. So…for anyone on the fence, I hope this is helpful. I’m 69.

Adding in…I was very worried about caring for the horses. I do have someone helping w stalls and lifting things right now but I can get to the barn, etc. I’m so relieved.

One more update…I feel fine. I got a dressing down from my surgeon for doing too much today.

I missed that your surgery date was yesterday but I’m glad you’re out of surgery and feeling fine! Keep the heavy lifting things to your barn helper and keep us updated

Thank you! I’m usually pretty shy about sharing these kind of things… but I thought this might help someone else who can’t go the surgery route.

With all the traffic on this post figured I’d do a one year post-op update.

I hit the 1 year mark on March 21st, and it has been a ride! I mentioned upthread that I had an allergic reaction to the adhesives on the steri-strips over my incisions resulting in my incisions splitting open due to swelling and irritation. This ended up causing a rather large opening on at the T-juncture of my incision and it did not fully close until mid-July. The care for the wound was awful at times, I had to do wet-to-dry bandages which were SO painful and then switched to a silver dressing which really improved healing time. But I had to pretty much live exclusively in sports bras so I could pad the wound and dressings. I now have a sizable scar in this area but it is not super off-color with my natural skin tone and it’s on the bottom of my breast so you can’t see it when you’re looking at it head on (and frankly anyone who cares about me having a scar can kick rocks).

Since being fully healed I’ve also lost 50lbs (so far!). I sleep better, my stamina is so much stronger, and my riding is really improved. I’m not fighting my center of gravity and my posture in the saddle is a totally different silhouette.

Even with my healing complications, I would still do everything again. It has changed my life.

That is wonderful news!

Does anyone have suggestions for shirts?? Right now, I’m wearing two sports bras and a wrap. The wrap stays on until next Monday, at least. I don’t know how to disguise this and there are people in my life I don’t want to know about this.

I just wore loose fitting tshirts and nobody could tell I’d had breast surgery! Now I’m going back for a 4th surgery (mine are all related to breast reconstruction) and now I’m having neck and shoulder issues due to one completely fake breast and one that had been lifted to try to match which with weight gain has dropped again and a bit larger larger….so in I’m going for a reduction on that non mastectomy side ….sigh….if I could do it all over again I’d of insisted on the double mastectomy to avoid posture issues!

I’m so sorry this has been so complicated for you. I hope this one resolves your problems.

My total recovery took a little longer than I expected. I believe my doctor was forthcoming; I think I didn’t hear her. I heard her say I’d need help for a day and a half. Of course, I did not share what all horse people do. It was still way more doable than surgery and I am very happy I did it.
