Breastplate question from (reluctantly) former eventer

I found an even more stupid way to hurt myself

Carolprudm, how good it is to read your posts again!
Well thank you, you made me smile. I’ve been going through a tough time (note: if you buy a bigger manure spreader and have trouble hoisting the manure tubs up high enough DO NOT boost them up with your thigh…and when your hip flexors really hurt from said activity, don’t just pop a few ibuprophen and carry on) but I have been able to ride without pain this spring.

A breastplate is to help with a saddle that slides back, not really side to side. I know you mentioned that you have a saddle fitter. Is your saddle a hoop tree? Just curious.
No, it is a County Connection

Not having seen photos or anything, a saddle that rolls side to side on a round horse often suggests that the lateral shape isn’t quite right, often too angular and a hoop tree might be better. Just a thought.

I have been happy with my County Eventer for my ID. I think the County saddles are among the few saddles that will work when you have a really wide ID. My boy is a 13 year old by Glenlara. I don’t remember when he finally developed withers. He had withers when I bought him at age 4. Then, his back got taller and the withers seemed to disappear for a while. Then, they came back. If Sophie is 16, I suspect she will never grow withers! I would use a breastplate, a nonslip girth, and a really tall mounting block.
