Breastplates 3, point or 5 point... OH MY!
CWD Bridge type is by far the best I have tried, I have one of those and one from PSoSweden and both are fabulous.
That’s the one I WANT!
The ones that I have and got second hand: #1 3-point breastplate, brand unknown, with elastic, attaches to D. #2 polo-style breastplate, brand unknown, elastic, no neckstrap, attaches to girth.

Combined, they make a decent 5-point breastplate haha. One was donated, one was bought second hand.

I have a 5-point breastplate and I do NOT like it. It’s way too cumbersome to put on and take off, and refitting it from one horse to the next is a PITA. I am now looking for a 3-point in black - thus far I have only found one made by Shires and I am a bit concerned about lack of quality.

I truly think this 5-point breastplate thing will be a thing of the past in a few years. I won’t buy another and would happily part with the one that I have.

what about bartville harness? i love their breastplates! nunn finer (which is essentially BVH) makes a nice black/brass model.

actually, what I am looking for is the bridge type breastplate and not the hunt breastplate. I think that they have the latter but not on black. Will check bartville harness… but last i checked, they did not have a website

I have this Ovation breastplate and love it https://www.equestriancollections.com/english-horse-tack/breastplates-martingales/breastplates/ovation-raised-breastplate?gclid=CJbBsqGfgMwCFcNahgod_IIFqw

I used to have a Nunn Finer 5 point and the leather was really nice but it was a pain to hook up and I realized I didn’t need it, so I sold it. It was also a bit too big for my horse. Honestly the leather on the Ovation feels every bit as nice as the Nunn Finer did.

OP, here is a related thread:

I’m going to echo the recommendation of the Nunn Finer 3 point with elastic. Mine is attractive, fits nicely, and appears comfortable to my mare. It’s also easy to put on. Oh, and I got it on eBay for around $60!

I hope this isn’t a hijack, but I do have a question. How do y’all keep your elastic clean, though? I wipe the leather after every ride, but there’s a bit of sweaty build up on the elastic.

If those are the ones I think they are, my trainer has a bunch of them. When I was down in Aiken and helped out in the barn I just wiped them down with a damp cloth. They still looked a little grimy/dingy, but I think that may just be how the elastic wears over time.

When I was in pony club we were taught to scrub the (light colored, because that was all there was then) girth elastic with toothpaste. I usually just wipe the breastplates with Castile soap when I’m cleaning the leather, though.

This is my favorite breastplate of all time but the cob I have is too small for my smallish tb, and only fits a 14.1 pony. So they run small. Thanks to this thread, I am now eyeing a horse size one,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00K5RZI0A/ref=olp_twister_child?ie=UTF8&mv_size_name=0

It doesn’t come in black, however.

The brown elastic really doesn’t show dirt, so I don’t go for colored elastic for that reason.
