Breeders Cup 2024

I was not at all shocked by Believing’s flip in the gate. she was painful to watch in the mornings. Refusing for a long while to leave the gate onto the track and playing lots of games . Rider just kind of sat on her with the irons up. Outrider tried for 20 min to get her off the chute. They ended up taking her back to the barn. Was a bit frustrating to watch as the filly clearly had everyone’s numbers and no one was telling her otherwise. Have a feeling these type of situations are the norm for her. hopefully she matures mentally and gets her antics under control. She is a beautiful filly

Or just does not want to be a career woman.

The gate procedures in Europe are different, mainly regarding the involvement of the gate crew. You won’t see them standing on the partitions between the gates in Europe. You’ll only see an attendant in the gates if there’s a problem.

Some horses adapt fine to our starting gate process when they come over here. Others, not so much. I don’t know if Believing has a history of gate trouble.

I know in France it used to be permitted to request an outside stall for your horse if they were known to get claustrophobic in the gate. Not sure if that’s still in effect.

Adare Manor just sold to Katsumi for $2.8m
War Like Goddess $1.8m to Willingham Stud

Moira is hip 293

There’s been some other big sellers as well.
Surge Capacity the high seller so far at $3.6m to Navrick INT’L/Grand Stud

Are there watchers that count whip strikes during the races? Or does someone go through the videos later looking for violations? And how many strikes are jockeys allowed to use?

I overheard a conversation about this today between someone who works on the backstretch (rider) at the current Del Mar meet, and was there during the BC, and a friend of his whom he hadn’t seen in awhile. The friend asked if he was still working at Del Mar and asked about some horses. Then he said “Heard there was a heart attack.” The man replied “Yeah, heart attack. But hardly anyone saw it. It was during the cool out.” And then the conversation changed to chatting about mutual friends.

I was struck by the rider’s top of mind comment that hardly anyone saw it.
He sounded relieved for the racing industry.

The winner of the Mile, More Than Looks, will stand at Lane’s End in 2025 for an introductory fee of $15000.
I’m a huge fan of More Than Ready horses so I’m delighted at this news. I was half expecting Japan would snap him up since the Hail To Reason line through Halo made Japanese racing. But at least for now More Than Looks stays here, and he’ll get every chance to succeed at Lane’s End.

I read it somewhere, but can’t find the article now.
That he reinjured the same leg that caused problems before. Which is why he was retired now rather than race in 2025.

I am NOT claiming this is true at all. If anyone has happened to see the same article/report, please let me know.

That’s interesting if true. He is obviously quite talented and I don’t think they got to the bottom of him at all.

I’m eager to see his conformation photo, which I know might be a few months off since those are usually taken after the horse has transitioned from racing condition. I don’t imagine it will be tops on the priority list until breeding season is done. His sire was such a nicely balanced horse and had a lovely long hip.

Obviously not official.

Based on that picture, he really looks like his sire. (More Than Ready, below)

I was thinking the same. Hip, shoulder, and hind leg all look like his sire’s.

He does appear to be a little back at the knee on the left front, but that could be photo distortion.

You had a colt or filly by him, didn’t you?

I’ve always liked him. Sorry that he’s gone, but glad his son is getting a chance.

We bred to him 3 times and got 2 colts and a filly, who became winners in the U.S., England, and Dubai.
