Breeders Cup

I am going to the breeders cup this year and wondering who else is going and what people are planning to wear? What about hats?

(I am sitting in section 118 (section between tunnel and winners circle!!!)

So excited to see Zenyatta!!! Go Zenyatta!!

Thanks!

I am going but am not wearing a hat. I will decide closer to the date dependent upon the forecast but most likely will wear a pantsuit.

I’m also going to wait to see what the weather is like before I decide.
November in Ky can be unpredictable.
I have never worn a hat to the BC,although you will see some people in hats, but it is not like the Derby,
In the area you will be sitting, you will see everything, from jeans,to nicely dressed people.
I’m am going to make sure I have very comfortable shoes on,because you will have to stake out your paddock position early if you want to get a good look at Zenyatta!
Have fun,I love the BC,I missed it the last 2 years because I didn’t want to make the flight to CA.

Have people’s tickets started to arrive yet?

I will be there-- but do not have seats in the grandstand-- but on the back of my 25 yr old OTTB pony horse-- he worked his first Kentucky Derby this year and now he is going to be working the BC!!!

pinkdiamondracing - what does your horse look like? I’ll make sure to get some photos for you.

Unfortunately-- Orbit is a non-descript dark bay/brown gelding with nothing more than small white star on his forehead-- I wish he had some sort of distinguishing markings, like a big blaze or 2 white socks or something, but he is just a gorgeous dark bay/ almost black 25 year old who looks not a day over 12!! LOL

I can tell you that he will have his mane lattice-worked again although this time we will use white rubber bands and he will be sporting his trademark glitter covered behind-- in BC purple and white naturally!!!

Oooo, were you at the Blue Grass S. this year? I remember seeing a horse with a glitter butt…LOL

Ill be there!!! Im in Sec 119 so right next to you!

I am praying for nice weather. I dont want to be stuck outside if its pouring, but I thought the compromise would be worth it to see Z make her move up close

I am hoping i can wear a dress, but I LOVE dresses and any excuse for one. But I will wait to see what the forecast brings. Guess i’ll have to buy a few diff outfits … oh darn!

pinkdiamondracing … send me a photo of your boy! Even if he doesnt have any loud markings, a photo might help us know what to look for! Ill try to find you and have some photos for you too… hramspacher@gmail.com

Yep-- that was us-- he had glitter on his rump in the colors of the Blue Grass Stakes-- red, blue, yellow green and silver!!!

Friday night probably a printed knee-length wrap dress with tall boots (flat) and a jacket, no hat. Might swap out the wrap dress for a turtleneck/wool skirt/jacket/tights at this point.

Saturday a dressy navy wool pantsuit with a nice printed scarf and comfy practical heels. Probably no hat again.

Some friends are going with seasonal hats but likely not as embellished as a Derby hat; mostly wool and low key. I might be convinced of a hat between now and then but unlikely.

Love it! I got one photo of him and, sadly, it’s just of his glittery rump. Oh well, I’ll look out for you at the BC…

Who won’t be racing there?

Devil May Care: Hepatitis knocks her out of the BC

Wickedly Perfect: who won Friday’s Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes making her the BC Juvenile Fillies win and you’re in runner is now a no-go because of a bone chip in her a knee.

Discreetly Mine injured - his left stifle - and is accordingly out of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

J. B. Thunder who won the win-and-you’re-in Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland (vaulting him to the BC JV) appears to be skipping. Rather he’s going to the either the Grade 3 Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs on Nov. 20 or the Grade 3 Lecomte at Fair Grounds on Jan. 22 instead.

And while he’ll be in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, that race will be the very last for Quality Road who won’t retire to Virginia but rather Lane’s End Farm.

The Breeders’ Cup will ensure you all get on board the “Stay Thirsty” train - which Mike Repole must be delighted about - as Dos Equis (re)named Breeders’ Cup sponsor.

Perhaps of interest for those looking for tix:

Through its retail activation, promoting the Sahara Lounge at the World Championships, Dos Equis will offer discounted two-day General Admission tickets for $20. Consumers can obtain a promotion code at the retail display and more information about how to gain access into the Sahara Lounge via a tear off pad, which is redeemable at www.bcwc2010.com

He’s been known to cure narcolepsy just by walking in the room

Glimmer, some of us hang on your every word … even the prepositions.

Nice pics!!

Ha! Although my blood doesn’t smell like cologne

For those of you unable to get to Churchill Downs the tv schedule for the Breeders’ Cup is now available: see link below. ESPN2, ABC, and ESPN plus I assume their 360.com web offering. HRTV will air the Friday undercard races as ESPN2 won’t air those ungraded races.

Source: Courier Journal Oct 13, 2010 - Race times and TV schedule for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup World Championships

It looks like the signature races for both days are going to go off much later then normal. I assume to add as much money from the West Coast as possible.

Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (Grade 1) for $2M
1 1/8 miles on dirt
Nov. 5 @ 7:30 PM EST on ESPN2

Breeders’ Cup Classic (Grade 1) for $5M
1 1/4 miles on dirt
Nov. 6 @ 6:45 PM EST on ESPN

Note that for 2010 the BC Marathon (1 3/4 miles) is now a graded 3 race with the purse still at $500,000. I wonder if Old Man Buck - who in 2009 was a steeplechaser but is back at the track in 2010 - would be pointed to this.

Did you know the biggest star horse in racing will be there in the Breeders’ Cup? … wait for it … indeed - Goldikova … as declared by the Daily Racing Form

Goldikova is the best horse in the world. In winning the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp on Oct. 3 she set a European record of 11 Group or Grade 1 victories. That is one more than the total racked up by the filly to which she is most often compared, Miesque. No European-trained horse has won as many such races since the group race system was introduced in 1971.

Goldikova … has never dodged the best of her own generation, the best of the previous generation, or the best of the next generation. Nor has she evaded males of any age. Nor has she stayed home in the Paris region and waited for horses to come to her.

Just one more reason being there in person at this year’s Breeders’ Cup looks to be a great couple of days!
