Breeders Cup

Interesting proposals: Bill Finley/ESPN Oct 15, 2010 “Making the Breeders’ Cup even better”

They’ve done a lot of good things, but they need to do more. Hire me as the Breeders’ Cup Czar and here’s a list of things I would do:

Let “win and you’re in” winners pick their post positions in the Breeders’ Cup
This one is a no-brainer. The Breeders’ Cup Challenge concept is still lacking because anyone winning one of these races would have made it into the Breeders’ Cup anyway. Most races aren’t oversubscribed and, even if they were, a winner of a major prep would never be among those excluded. The way to make the Challenge races mean something is to let the winners pick their posts.

Seriously? Mine That Bird to take aim at Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.

If he goes off at odds under 30-1 it will show that the public has been drinking too much! I’m not saying he’s Rick’s Natural Star from 1996’s BC but I think at the end Rick will have gone off with shorter odds (29-1) …

(Todd Durkin interviewing Rick’s owner about training the horse by using a pickup truck is CLASSIC. Rick lost by 180-lengths in the BC Turf.)

I find the entire MTB … conundrum to be interesting to follow.

It might sound cold, but at this point I simply want to see if someone can figure out what makes MTB tick.

Images of Lukas as Captain Ahab in Moby Dick fruitlessly chasing the great white whale of MTB hitting the board abound.

I am SO excited to see both Goldikova and Zenyatta. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that they both travel and train up to their races well. I love great racemares and can’t wait to finally see both of them in the flesh.

A little bit of trivia, our little sales company out here in Washington catalogs around 200 horses for their September yearling sale, although the number was much smaller this year. Both Atta Boy Roy and Smiling Tiger are graduates of the sale and are expected to go in the BC Sprint. Pretty amazing coincidence. Most years we are thrilled to have one “local” connection show up and that’s usually just a horse owned by someone from WA. Smiling Tiger brought $40k while Atta Boy Roy a mere $4500.

I heart Atta Boy Roy.

Zen AND Goldikova.

It’s like double-super-pinch-me-whipped-cream-with-a-cherry-on-top perfect.

I’m very disappointed the two 2y/os I wanted to see most are out… Kantharos & Position Limit. :frowning:

Counting down the days until Queen Z…

Sorry to be dense, but what day is the Breeders’ Cup?

Churchill Downs: Friday November 5 and Saturday Nov 6

Which races, and tv airing, for each respective day: are found here

With reference to MTB, theys ay he cn run all day so why not put him in the Marathon? MAkes sense to me…Unfortunately, for this little guy his value is only that of a racehorse. Maybe he would do well in a second career…maybe a jumper. They say he is a fiesty horse hence him being gelded…so…maybe timbers? Just joking…

November 5th and 6th(Frid and Sat)

I keep imagining that stretch in the Classic

Lookin at Lucky and Quality Road battling on the lead with Blame, Queen Z and Haynesfield coming up the middle to try and run them down …

and that’s without knowing who the Europeans will send

(or is Goldikova going in the Classic?)

Would Todd Pletcher shoot himself (and QR) if he freaked at the gate again?

Has a Kentucky Derby winner ever gone on to a jumper career before?

I think Gary Stevens daughter rode a Breeders Cup winner as a jumper but can’t remember the horse’s name.

Didn’t Kelso become a hunter?

Pink Diamond - if you are still on this thread - I have a picture of you at the Derby - all decorated up so nicely!! Bit far away, though!

Thank you, Glimmerglass!!

Foxtrot— I am here-- can you send me that pic?? pinkdiamondracing@yahoo.com---- thanks so much!!

I truly interesting entry in what will already be a competitive and fascinating field in the Breeders’ Cup Classic: Japan arrival Espoir City

Courier-Journal 10-19-10 “Japanese horse Espoir City arrives for the Breeders’ Cup”

In the BCC you have Quality Road, Blame, Zenyatta …

I’ll be there. Same box as I was in for the Derby. I was told to wear dress and a hat. They are projecting it to be a little chilly.

Is anyone going from GA? I am going and all my friends bailed so it’s just me :frowning: any one looking to split a room or the ride out?
