Breeders Cup
Anyone know the post time for Zenyatta’s race? Or any approximation of it? Is it noon or 5’ oclock?
“Her” race  Ha! Anyhow the Breeders’ Cup Classic is Saturday Nov 6th

Race 11 - set to go off at 6:45pm EST

It will be under the lights, it will be chilly, it might even be a bit wet, and I suspect it could go off a few minutes late … to build up the wagers

Thanks GG! I dodged a bullet! I will be home in time to watch the Breeders Cup Classic, with “her” and some other nice horses looking at her heels!!:yes::yes:

Here is a very diplomatic explanation from Kiaran McLaughlin on why Etched was vanned to Churchill Downs from Saratoga Springs rather than fly.

For trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, a long drive seemed like a better option than flying for Etched.
“It would have been a four-hour ride to Long Island, another hour at the airport and then the flight,” McLaughlin said. “He can be a bit difficult and he’s a very large horse, so it’s just better for him to head down there on a van.”

Water, water, water …

No not rain, but rather the intense amount of water that has been applied to the Churchill surfaces and its been significantly increased.

Kentucky has been suffering a drought for much of the season and Stay Thirsty might apply to the Europeans. They have complaints of the firm ground: Sir Michael Stoute (and to a lesser degree Henry Cecil), with the course superintendent as to whether enough water has been put on the track.

Plenty of water is being poured on the track but could a Euro scratch (like ML favorite in the BC Turf - Workforce) if it stays too firm? They won’t run him if its too hard as they see that as a risk.

Churchill reportedly has been watering the course 10 minutes per day since Oct. 25, and had watered 20 minutes per day before then. Ten minutes of watering is equivalent to about one-quarter inch of rain, 20 minutes to one-half inch. The turf course is far greener than any of the grass in the area that hasn’t been heavily watered.

TVG said that 100,000 gallons a day is now being applied up from 20,000 gallons a day just last week.

Ha ha - they had enough water (rain) at the Derby to sink a battleship.

I was watching some of the late races at Churchill Downs on the dirt today (HRTV) and there was a tremendous amount of kickback. If they are dumping water - and it did rain this morning - it really isn’t doing much with the surface.

If you are going to the races tomorrow - FRIDAY - you might want to get there early:

TVG will give away to the first 10,000 fans the 19 races of Zenyatta on a special DVD keepsake.

The DVD, titled Zenyatta A Living Legend, presents a retrospective of the six-year-old mare’s championship career.

Of particular note is an interview conducted by TVG’s Christina Olivares with the Mosses prior to Zenyatta’s first race, a maiden special weight, 6 ½ furlong contest run on November 22, 2007 at Hollywood Park. Though racetrack insiders had a suspicion that Zenyatta would become a special horse, the Mosses were hesitant to predict the race’s outcome, telling Olivares that all they were hoping for was, “a good run and a nice try.”

What (if anything) is being broadcast today (Friday)? And where/when?

Nevermind, found it!

Yep, coverage starts at 4 pm on ESPN2. Squeeeee!

Today is bittersweet for me-- I get to pony the Breeder’s Cup races, which is cool, but I don’t get to share the weekend with my partner of 19 years, Orbit. I am both happy and sad.

On a good note, I finished accompanying BC horses to the track and walked into the backside kitchen just in time to see the Queen jog by-- I got a picture, but it isn’t very good-- she then galloped by again, and my stupid camera didn’t shoot quickly enough ( darn point and shoot digital cameras).

She looks amazing and ready to hand those smelly boys the royal whuppin they have coming!!!

Pink Diamond: I looked for my photo of you at the Derby, but I either didn’t print it and then deleted it - or - it is on my friend’s camera. But she is down there again to cheer on Zenyatta so I can’t check with her until after she gets back.
Sorry! I have to admit, I have not looked forward to a race this much for a long time.

Fists a flying as a result of the Marathon Race.

Wow - Calvin and Javier Castellano in an all out fist fight in the winner circle. Amazing!

Calvin wasn’t just a little mad he was a lot’a mad. It took six people to hold him back.

Why Trevor and not Tom?

and do you know,{Glimmer or anyone} why Tom Durkin is calling Aqueduct today and not John Embriol [sp]? And Calvin WAS a mad Cajun. Maybe with the horrific fall Garrett took yesterday, the tensions are just higher? Boy I wish it was on a network that cared a little more about racing:(

Castellano’s horse was eliminated after the Steward’s inquiry. After watching the replays, especially from the back view, it looks like Borel almost picked up the #5 rider to save him from coming off- he was bumped that hard.

My face looked like this:  Wow he was mad! That was quite a look on his face.

It was an interesting demonstration of 1. how strong jockeys are to begin with and 2. how much added strength anger/adrenaline will give you! The people holding him back weren’t exactly small…

The BC is under contract with Trevor so Tom doesn’t get the nod with ABC/ESPN. It’s opening day in NY and they want their best pipes working. Larry Collmus was calling the undercard races at CD today in lieu of in-house caller Mark Johnson.

I am amazed that Martin Garcia wasn’t thrown to the ground when Romp (ARG) had to be pull up or clip heels. Seriously he hugged his horses neck for dear life!

By all rules of physics, Romp should have gone down. He practically flipped over his own face. I cannot believe Garcia stayed on. I understand Borel’s reaction; so, so much damage could have been done there.

Congrats to the winning connections, I’m just thrilled to see a young female trainer get a BC win. Such a shame that it will be marred by this incident.

I understand Calvin’s anger, but man he looked like a psychopath! That face was about as scary as it gets, I don’t care if he’s 100 lbs!

Martin’s angels are flying round today

He is VERY lucky he didn’t go down. Interesting, he got much the worst of it, but didn’t attack Castellano.
On another subject, I think that Quality Road, Blame, Lookin’ at Lucky and obviously Z Queen are the best in the Classic. Even assuming one of them wins, one of them will be technically out of the money. I realize in these races, it goes down a long ways, but no one remembers who finished 4th [unless it is your horse!]

I had Julien on Gabriels hill to show so I made some decent money. I also had Calvin in an exacta in the Marathon too. Oh well.
