all horses are ok, [so far as I know, which isn’t very far…][/QUOTE]

 Thanks!

Race 9 - taken in an upset by Shared Account owned by Sagamore Farm, the former Maryland powerhouse that is undergoing a rejuvenation under Kevin Plank.

Video - Plank and Sagamore Farm (ex Vandebilt)

A good guy who is trying to save whats left Maryland racing …

Win-Place-Show: 5-7-4 and thus netting $97 for the $2 wager on Shared Account. The second highest payout for a BC winner.

Life at ten what drama!

is there a problem? John V says she is NQR.
Go BLIND LUCK!

Bummer!

I jinxed her:( congrats to Unrivalled Belle

Life At Ten looked like my Lucky when he just does NOT feel like working (though as I’m not racing his method of protest is to stop and stand.) She looks like she’s walking sound (as Lucky does) but just bored and not interested in cooperating.

She looks like she is trying to tie up to me…

Pletcher sez…

it was a reaction to the Lasix. It really put the jockey in a bad spot. Scratch the favorite at teh gate?

In my 20 telecast non-vet opinion, I agree it looked like she was tight possibly tying up.

I’ve never seen her before but she’s a gorgeous big mare. And if she’s not happy racing she’s more than welcome to live with me.

Idk about the Lasix but I’m sure Dutrow wish he wouldve thought to be that smart before the “pull up” of BB and scratched him. IMO Johnny did all he could and was right to let her just lightly breeze around rather than pushing or giving up completely.

Why oh why didn’t they get Life At Ten checked at the gate?

She would’ve been scratched before the race went off as uncompetitive (as she was) and wagers refunded and/or redistributed into alternate wagers.

Come on - they knew she was off and as we all saw she just dropped from from being 10 lengths behind to 20 lengths to 30 lengths …

The interest of the wagering public was not taken into consideration and that is a serious offense. I had her in a couple of exactas and their decision cost me money. I’m not going to loot and riot as a result but I am miffed.

I would be miffed if I was you and probably the scores of other people who had money on her one way or the other. Why did the track vet not scratch her at the gate?

That mare looked stiff (especially right front) to me- more like tying up. I wouldn’t have called her sound. “Lasix reaction” is the new “loose shoe” maybe?

Sometimes Lasix will dull them, do doubt about it… but she looked short up front to me too.

I just HAVE to mention how glad I am that Glimmerglass decided to come back!

Glimmer, I’m sure I speak for more than just myself when I say that yours is a treasured voice on this forum.

Don’t ever go away again.

I thought Life at Ten looked off in the right hind before the race, and even worse afterward. I also wondered if she was tying up. Hope she is OK…

LAT was wonky in the RF and her hind end was very tight. If you watch her standing at the gate before the load, she had some tremors working in the RF fore arm.

I am not sure why she ran; it does put JV in a crap spot but he knew she wasn’t right, so why run her and deny the betting public a redistribution or refund?

I guess if a fight and a horse that should have been scratched but wasnt, yet returned safe was the worse thing that happened today, it was still an awesome race day!

The race chart for the BC Ladies’ Classic [Race 10] and as you can see Life At Ten is not even listed as finishing.

In fact she was a non-racer after the first 1/2 mile!

JV knew from the start he was never going to have a runner, never pushed her thankfully, and just eased her along. I don’t think she was in any danger of injuring herself as per say but still if a lethargic runner, the 2nd favorite in the wagering, goes to the gate in a Grade 1 $2,000,000 race and everyone looks the other way then something is wrong with the system.

Anyhow moving forward …

The numbers for today aren’t as big as I expected with the Louisville venue but the weather is a major culprit… ironic as everyone says the beautiful weather in LA should be a major selling point for more fans in the seats. It isn’t.:

Attendance for Breeders’ Cup Championship Friday at Churchill Downs increased by 10.5 percent over Championship Friday last year at Santa Anita Park as 41,614 were on hand for the 10-race card that included six Breeders’ Cup World Championships races and finished under the lights. Attendance on the 2009 Championship Friday program was 37,651.

The common-pool handle for the 10 races was $53,010,624, a 9.4 percent increase over the $48,439,459 wagered on last year’s Friday card. For the six Breeders’ Cup races handle this year rose 13 percent, from $40,277,320 to $45,393,976.

The on-track handle was $8,109,443, a 14 percent jump from the $7,097,789 bet on-track in 2009.

I am home still trying to get warm!!

IIRC

Dtdn’t Garrett Gomez a week or two ago, refuse to ride a horse trained by Mike Maker, who then became incensed and pulled him off all his horses the next day? GG didn’t think horse was sound. Trainer found someone else to ride horse who finished mid pack. You just never know what sort of things go through their minds.
For all you who said LAT looked like she was tying up, so said several of the pundits on the wrap up shows. You guys have great eyes!
And I agree, please Glimmer, don’t leave us again!
