"Breezy Gates"?... need gates for ends of barn

We had thought about the board also. We were going to make a sort of mini gate with a couple of boards and cross pieces and then put it on a hinge so it would swing open. But then someone suggested the chain/pipe and we had pipe laying around so…

I think the two overlapping gates sounds good. You could buy those gate stop poles that go into the ground to keep one gate closed and just go in and out of the other.

another vote for Breezy Gate…

we have two of them for stall doors in a turnout barn - and I would love to buy 2 more. They are easy to install, and relocate.

I hate it when something this well designed and manufactured goes by the wayside. Let me know if you find someone who can manufacture them.

Love the PVC pipe idea for the south side of my barn where I don’t bring the horses in and out .

For the north side, I need something easy to manage. I currently have three stall guards clipped together (our aisle is 14 feet), but two of the horse just but their head under the center of it, fling it up and walk on in. Did the chain thing (two across) but it was just too much of a pain in the neck.

Somewhere I have the pics of the breezy gate saved down from their old web site. I’ll search tonight when I’m home, but Lori may beat me to posting them.

Here is a flyer with pictures of the original Breezy Gate:

Have you tried your local high school shop teacher?
Such simple project would be just peachy for a beginner shop kid and generally, all you have to do is pay for the materials.

Our shop kids have built most anything, even horse trailers and they are very, very good.

Thanks for the links to the brochure/pictures. I have printed it and will attempt to send it to Noble Fence to see if they can give me a price on fabrication.

It never crossed my mind to enlist the help of a shop teacher/class! With the end of school fast approaching, it may be too late to get them to start a new project. I do live close to a Community College… I may try there!

I will certainly let everyone know if I can find a valid source for this type of gate. I really appreciate all the help that I have received.

Have you found a gate?
Have you seen the gates on www.farmweld.com.au ? There is one called a Forest Gate that is similar to a Breezy Gate. You could have someone build one or you could take a 14-foot pipe gate and have it cut down for what you are wanting.

:sigh: I never found someone to make them for us (I’m not the OP, but was also looking.). I ended up just putting a regular gate up, set a foot away from the barn so I have a pass through on both sides. It’s ended up working out very well. On the other side, where I don’t let the horses come in and out, I went with the PVC idea, which has worked out well too.

We use a frame gate (4 foot) attached to an 8 foot panel. Ours is a www.hi-hog 5 bar handy frame and gate. We use this on one end of the barn because we keep loose horses around in the summer. It is easy to open if you need to drive something into the barn.

On the other end, we use a 12 foot panel that we have hinged on one side up high so that it can swing. Then it latches into another “holder” on the other side. Works well so that we can drive the ATV in at night.

Nancy, do you have pictures of the way you have the end of the barn set up (with the frame gate and the 8 ft panel)? I would love to see it… if I am visualizing it correctly, it sounds like it may work for us.

what you’re looking for are also known as ‘road gates’, (you see them closing off roads in the winter, state parks, parking lots etc. I have no idea what they would cost, or where to get a ‘lighter’ (i.e. not steel) version but I’d bet with enough looking you could find/have made a version.

I found another image of the original Breezy Gate, if that helps:

Not sure if it will show adequate detail of fittings.

I thought they were one of the most unsafe for equines, designed things I ever saw! Way too easy for horse to get caught in the open end, sticking a head or leg thru that opening. Or trying to go under and lift gate right off the pins. If gate didn’t lift off, then horse could try going up, hurt himself that way! Not all horses stop when they meet resistance with head under that gate.

Not going to be helpful keeping dogs, smaller animals and minis out of the barn. I just see it as a problem waiting to happen! Wouldn’t have one for a gift. Would not advise anyone to buy it if you have loose horses around the barn, access to open aisle doors. Asking the 4-H kids what did they see about using this gate produced all the things mentioned above. None felt it safe to use for their horses or barn.

I would say, it may not stop a horse running loose and trying to get across.
They would try to bulldoze thru that and, unlike a more solid gate, really tear it up.

For the gentle and quiet kind, that will stay put anywhere, it would be ok.
I think the idea of that open side is so people can climb thru that without needing to open the gate?
Why they would need to do that, I don’t know.

the OP was about 7 years ago, probably she’s found her gate by now.

If not, the horses got out!
