Thanks for all the input guys! Definitely off the Brenderup idea. For reference - the one I was looking at was in the same price range as a steel 2-horse. It may have had issues as I didn’t formally inquire but mostly peaked my interest because it fell into the price range I was shopping ($4-6k).
I’m still kicking around the idea of getting set up for a gooseneck. Mostly I don’t want to get a bumper pull, regret it, and end up taking a loss on that and paying for the hitch and another trailer later. I know myself and this is exactly the kind of thing I do.
At this point I’m reading this thread I’m like NO ONE IS CUTTING ANY HOLES IN MY TRUCK especially not me!!!… but like I said, there may already be something going on under the bed liner that I want to get investigated. The truck is older but low mileage (58k) and the people before took impeccable care of it. No rust, extra lights and chrome, custom floor liners, really nice trailer breaking system. It’s already becoming mine from the cookie crumbs in the seat to the coffee I manage to spill all over the cup holders but I’m being a little protective is that we’re not getting the saws all out quite yet
The good news is my current kid is small (13.3h POA) and the new one coming is only 15.2h so I don’t need a super jumbo model. I am a little strange about how I would prefer to have a more open straight load because the pony tends to get a little nervous when he feels “trapped” in a slant load (he can’t see over the dividers and usually can’t see out the windows without raising his head). BUT loading and unloading alone is worlds easier in a slant and to be perfectly honest - the pony can be a little exhausting to be around and the new horse is mare so I might need a solid divider
Now I’m looking at three horses because maybe I want to take my two and a barn buddy… yikes. I’m losing my mind.
I’ve been dreaming about this for so long you’d think I’d have my act together but you’d be wrong.
