Bridging Reins - where have you been all my life?

Can anyone explain how one bridges reins? Pictures don’t make it particularly clear.

Is it that you just pick up the left side with your right hand, and the right side in your left and the bight is held equally in the middle?

I just pick up the extra in one hand (though you can do it in both) then the idea is to keep that extra even pressure, tehre shouldn’t be any give in that extra. That’s what keeps me from dropping contact as it forces my hands to stay in the same place.

I remember back in my beginning days, I rode at a primarily AQHA barn and they had just hired a new trainer, she was more hunter/equitation minded. She taught us to bridge our reins one day and it was genious (obviously I wasn’t an up downer at this point…), then our next lesson she informed us that she got yelled at for teaching us that and we were no longer allowed to bridge them… I really should try it again some day.
