Bridle Lameness, Diagnosis of Exclusion

The rehab hospital sounds not just incompetent, but dangerous. It sounds like you now have a good plan, and hopefully some more knowledgeable professionals to work with. Best of luck with getting your horse feeling better.

Thank you!

Pm’d you.

I have never heard the term bridle lame. I know coaches who call a horse rein lame. This refers to bad riding causing a horse to move short or unevenly.

My vet does lameness evaluatiins on hand and longe so riding doesn’t impact.

Evaluating your care team and service providers is a huge part of successful horse care. Unfortunately it can be difficult when you are faced with a new issue. Also a good chunk of standard vet, farrier and feed advice can be counterproductive and as far as body workers, trainers, rehab, pulse devices etc it’s basically the wild west out there.

My experience is that you (g) need to be self educated, hands on, proactive, advocate for your horse and have a good bs filter in order to get good outcomes on health issues.

Unfortunately it is difficult to get a vet to do blocks and diagnosis lameness. There seems to be few vets that are willing to do that and even fewer who can do so accurately. I must have tried 3 or 4 vets for my pssm type 2 horse and none were able to accurately diagnose her. I finally figured out her symptoms matched pssm type 2, as the vets all assumed lameness and wanted to do multiple injections. Hopefully your new vet has figured things out and can get your horse on the road to recovery.

This really helps me, and is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you Scribbler.

So, there is something to the thought that it can be quite challenging to find the right vet. I had already kind of figured out that if you have an orthopedic problem, maybe don’t go to a vet who specializes in GI problems or reproduction. :slightly_smiling_face: If I have a horse with a GI problem, bring me the GI specialist! I am really good with that; each vet having a specialty or area of interest they focus on. So, for lameness, maybe that is why the two surgeons were quick to get to the bottom of the lameness - they are used to really getting in there with tools and instruments. Good to know. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I’m curious about your general location and whether this is regional. I’m in the mid-Atlantic and have only had this experience once, with a flamingly incompetent vet who wasn’t good at anything else either. Otherwise all of the dozen+ the vets I have dealt with over the last decade have been happy to do a basic lameness exam to include blocking. I have not had IA blocking offered to me in the field, but regional nerve blocks have always been “what comes after the physical exam and flexions,” presuming the horse is lame enough to usefully block.

@SporthorseFun who is @JumperMan and why did you pretend not to know him/her?

This is hilarious! I know about her horse, and I made a comment! Why don’t you focus on your “Endless Climb”?

Yeah, you knew about the horse. So much so that you made a post about the horse’s feet, using a photo from another poster’s post.

And then… you pretend not to know each other.

Riiiiight. Are engineers more gullible or…? (don’t need to answer that, as I am one…)

@Moderator_1 is one of these accounts an alter?

Endless Climb,

Why don’t you go to a dark room, lie down with a cold compress, and relax.

Wow, I don’t even know what to say about this. I have moved on. This person, Jumperman, is in a training group I am in, online, and, yes, I have reached out to him for his thoughts. I have another person who has a professional contact considered best in the country that helped me, and more importantly, the horse, one one occasion too. Is this a crime? What is your problem endlessclimb? Why is it so important to you to humiliate me, isolate me, and discredit me? If you want to embarrass yourself, that is up to you, but don’t highjack a thread where the topic is important to me and drag me into it.

Let’s be clear here: You did this to yourself. You got caught in a little white lie. Don’t get all indignant about it - it’s your fault.

You’re not a victim. The only victim here is the horse.

Why does it matter if they know each other or even if one of them is an alter of the other? Does it make any difference to the question or answers posted?
