I’ve heard about this show. Can you please explain if it is open to mares from all of Germany or just certain areas?

And do they have to qualify first or can all enter?

Lastly, I under stand it’s just held every 4 yrs. or is that incorrect?

I DO know it’s a big deal.

Do you know who won Get of Sire? Or maybe they call it Mare Family or something like that…

It is the Highlight for the Oldenburg Breeders and it is held every year.
It is very difficult to get there and is only open to Oldenburg mares…
First you have to bring your 3 or 4 year old mare to the inspection.
If she does well she qualifies for one specific Mare Testing Date. At that date you can either get the Verbandsprämie which means you are done, or you can qualify your mare for Rastede for the Staatsprämie.

In Rastede you can qualify for this Brilliantring.

This ring is really the top of the top and out of many many Oldenburg mares in Germany only few make it…

The last few years my mares at least qualified for the test (which is very good already) but I never went:(

Next year I will try to make it with my young mares… It is kind of dream for me…

You can watch this event on http://www.clipmyhorse.de/ (as a video) and I think it is really worth it.

By the way I think there are no mare families there

1g - *08 Delanos’ s Dorothy; Sir Donnerhall - Don Gregory

Anyone know if this is a full sibling of Sir Gregory or just similar breeding?

*08 Kadisha; Don Romantic – Depardieu; Bernd Lampe, Emstek; Besitzer

This makes me even MORE excited to use Don Romantic next year. I think he is such a perfect match for my mare!

I really like San Amour even more now  Congrats to all!!

To add to what Manni said - the mares at Rastede have all done a Mare Performance Test, and the results from the test, as well as their mare inspection scores, are used to determine which ones are invited to Rastede. The number varies, but this year, there were somewhere around 45 OL mares and 17 or so OS competing at Rastede - probably more were invited, but didn’t make it for one reason or another.

The mares are grouped into “rings” by sire’s name, which gives everyone a good idea of what the stallions are siring out of different damlines. So the first group might contain mares sired by stallion’s whose names start with “A” and go “D” or “F”, etc., then they go on to the next group, etc. This year, there were 5 groups or “rings” for the OL mares, and 2 rings for the OS mares. Also, this year, there were so many Fidertanz and San Amour mares, they had to split them up into two rings (6 Fidertanz mares and 9 San Amour mares - there were also 8 Sir Donnerhall mares, but they all fell in the final group).

After the judges evaluate the mares for conformation and walk/trot in hand on the triangle, they select the ones they want to come back for the Brilliantring, where they are ranked by premiums - 1a is 1st place, 1b is 2nd place, etc. And the Brilliantring is aptly named - these mares are the creme de la creme of 3-4 year old Oldenburg mares.

And it helps to remember that the mares that don’t come back to the Brilliantring are also quite exceptional. It is no small feat to earn an invite to Rastede - I think it is somewhere less than 3% of mares born in any one year will be invited, so it is quite an accomplishment for a breeder to have their mare be among that top 2%-3%. Again, these mares are all States Premium Aspirants (will earn the SPS title once they have a foal).

This year, there were two American breeders with mares invited to Rastede: Nancy Holowesko had a Sir Donnerhall/Espri mare there, and Ann Kitchel had a Fidertanz/Don Schufro mare there. Kudos to them!

So American BORN horses can also be invited? (now that Oldenburg has a MPT here)

Nancy’s filly is American born and she took her back to Germany for training. Ann’s mare was born in Germany.

What does OL and OS stand for?

Any Oldenburg Verband registered mare, whose dam is in the main Mare Book, can do a Mare Performance Test in Oldenburg Germany…but to get them there is a bit expensive (-:

I shipped my mare to Germany for training as a sports horse but also wanted her to do a MPT while there. This Sir Donnerhall filly ended up with the fifth highest MPT score of all the mares tested with an 8.2. Solar Eclipse had the highest MPT of any Sir Donnerhall mare tested in Oldenburg this year and actually, the highest MPT of any Sandro Hit or son of Sandro Hit bred mare (San Amour, Stedinger, Sungold, Sunny Boy) so I am very pleased with my US bred filly (-:

Congratulations, Nancy. Your hard work is really paying off-

All the best,

Peg Lansing

What does OL and OS stand for?[/QUOTE]

OL means Oldenburger out of Dressagelines
OS means Oldenburger out of Jumpinglines

OS was founded not so long ago by jumping orientated breeders. But of course OL foals are able to jump too:)

By the way, I got my breeders magazine today.
55 Staatsprämien mares were invited to Rastede. There were 98 more mares who also got the Staatsprämie, but were not invited to Rastede. So it is a huge Honor just to be there…

Huge congrats to Nancy Holowesko and Ann Kitchel. Just being invited is quite an accomplishment!

Ditto that!!! (Where is the applause button???):yes::yes:

Very well done, ladies!!

The full report for Rastede will be on the website www.oldenburghorse.com. There are already photos and a video of the champion mare in her victory lap.

Thanks Stephanie for the report. Congratulations again to Nancy and Ann.

Nancy’s mare for sure showed off her mega gaits.

Just as a point, the invitation to Rastede is only partly done by score, but some of the highest scoring mares are not necessarily invited if they are not of the “type” or stage of development to go to Rastede. Therefore, Rastede is about scores for sure, but also a bit of a beauty contest and the character of the mare also has an impact since they need to be able to stand up to the test(s).

A big congrats from me too to Nancy and Ann!!! Stephanie as usual your reports are so well done:-)

Big congrats to both ann and Nancy!! That is huge!

Yes, sorry I didn’t clarify this. Thanks!
