What does OL and OS stand for?[/QUOTE]
This was already answered, but to elaborate a little, OL stands for the Verband der Zuechter des Oldenburger Pferdes which is the historical Oldenburg Breeding Society (GOV is the typical abbreviation used in English). In 2001 a new society was founded called the Springpferdezuchtverband Oldenburg-International (OS), and it’s purpose was to specialize in the breeding of jumpers. The Breeding Director, Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff is the director of both societies, but the Evaluation Committees and Boards of Directors of each society are made up differently.
Up until a month ago, the OL was still made up of both dressage and jumper horses and lines, and the OS only specialized in jumpers. Breeders had the choice to be a member of whichever organization they wished to, and register their foals based on that choice. However, that has now changed with the recent creation of a “Dachverband” translated literally as “Roof Verband” or supervisory society. It is called the Oldenburger Pferdezucht-Verband e.V. and it’s purpose is to oversee and essentially unify the two societies.
The OL will now specialize in the breeding of dressage horses and the OS will specialize in the breeding of jumper horses. Because of this, this was the first year that OL branded and registered mares whose lines and talents are meant for jumping were grouped together with the OS mares at Rastede, and in the Mare Performance Test held earlier.
There will be a full article about this in the upcoming issue of the OHBS-GOV magazine.
And thanks Downyonder! I’ve been under the weather lately, and am moving slower with these reports than usual. Thanks for keeping everyone updated.
p.s. Just an edit to clarify that the new Dachverband was recently created in concept, but it will become a legal entity on January 1, 2012. That being said, they are already making some changes such as what they did at the MPT in order to start working with the new concept. The stallion licensings are also going to be radically changed. More about that in the upcoming article.

Yeah, can’t wait to read about the Landeschampionat!

An extra congratulations to Jason Canton and Julia Martin of Alpharetta, Georgia! Their young stallion, Supremat, was the Reserve Champion of the 3 year old Stallions under Johannes Westendarp, and he qualified for the 2011 Bundeschampionate!
Since we were pointing out the success of the San Amour mares, let’s note the write up about this San Amour/Harvard gelding as found on the Oldenburg News page
“The 3 year old class was won by a very special gelding that was truly astounding in his presence and ability in all three gaits. Stern von Afrika ridden by Andrea Müller-Kersten earned a 9.0 for his trot, 9.0 for canter, 8.5 for walk, 9.0 for training, 8.50 for conformation and 9.0 for presentation resulting in the highest score given at these championships of 8.83! Stern von Afrika is sired by San Amour and is out of a Harvard mare. This should make David Burke very happy since he now owns and stands Harvard at his Pangaea Farm in Ontario, Canada! Stern von Afrika was bred and is owned by Tammo Francksen”
I was at Rastede but missed this class )-: But, I do have a Harvard/Akzent II mare in foal to San Amour for 2012, so am feeling pretty good about this cross right now!

Super news, very happy for Jason and Julia!
Too bad you missed that one Nancy. This gelding was very special, and what you don’t see on that video is that the wind picked up just as they were coming into the arena and the umbrella over the judges flew up and away. Then, after they got it nailed down, the horses settled and were getting ready to start when the umbrella collapsed over the judges. There were some antics, but for the most part everyone was really impressed with all three that were in the arena at that point. I’m sure he must have looked even better on the day of the finals when things were a little calmer!
Oh, and we just got this in! Here is the video of the Champion OS mare, Contessa D, in the free jumping of the Mare Performance Test. She scored a 9.5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdbGloTH-MY. As soon as we get the other two, I’ll put them up in the report and on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Oldenburg-Horse-Breeders-Society-and-Weser-Ems-Ponies/144874792216944?ref=mf
Enjoy!
Huge congrats to all who went and did well
I think Harvard may turn out to be the best son of Hohenstein.
Thank-you Stephanie for the wonderful video and yes, we are very, very happy. It has been one heck of a week for us. Harvard’s 2nd generation offspring are their own marketing campaign!
Stolensilver - wow, what a complement. I am tempted to print your comment out and put it on Harvie’s stall
