Bromont plans to run despite Canada’s COVID crisis

So it doesn’t sound like it would have been difficult to ensure that rider got a spot. So how / why were the other riders chosen? The majority of them aren’t in Olympic contention. Many seem to have brought multiple horses, including young / green ones.

This is exactly what’s so problematic. I feel like writing a letter of complaint but I don’t live in Quebec anymore and don’t even ride now :joy:

Agreed, if it was only one rider who was critical to see, then it seems like this could have been transparent and handled openly and easily. First, call on national pride: we need to cobble together a team under these unprecedented circumstances so, Canadian riders, can you help us out? Here’s how it’s going to go: Rider X is the only reserved spot. We will open the remaining max spots allowed under health regs. Would you all please come out and compete to help us put on this event so that we can build the best Team Canada possible?

Rules: first come, first served; one horse per rider; follow all health regs. Thanks, Canadian event community and we’ll see the lucky competitors at Bromont on the Little Bromont weekend!

I must be missing something b/c PR/logistics/organization aren’t my field but I cannot see how it wasn’t simply and openly handled.

That is far too logical, fair and effective for consideration.

I would have modified your proposal a bit, by allowing 2 horses per rider as many ULRs may not find it worth their time travel so far with only one horse. I 100% agree that it could have been handled so much better and still achieved the goal.

Fair enough, that’s a great point and the kind of nuance that more experienced folks could have brought to bear. So 2 horses/rider or 2 horses/rider above a certain level or whatever.

It seems like a huge opportunity for a feel-good, community-building event was missed here. I bet Canadian riders would have gone above and beyond to support this event even if they themselves didn’t get a coveted spot if they had been involved and engaged from go.

What a waste of resources. I’d be put out if I were a Canadian rank-and-file eventer. It’s like someone workshopped what the worst possible approach would be and then went with it.

Yep and when asked the organizer said - well I posted it on my FB page???

Like personal FB page. So yeah, FB friends only I guess.

So weird that it wasn’t on the Bromont FB page. In fact there’s been nothing posted there since the May 20 announcement that it was cancelled. Unless I’m looking at the wrong page?
