Another People On Horses vote. I tried a few of the ā€œless expensiveā€ brands, and none of them have the quality and staying power of POH…

Why not make your own?
Buy a browband with ugly bling at the tack shop, rip that stuff out. Buy beads that fit from a craft shop. You’ll need jewellry wire, crimps, a large blunt needle, beds and waxed thread. .
Using a large, blunt needle, insert the jewelry wire through one end of the opening where the bling goes in, into the loop. Put a crimp on and tighten it down. Feed your beads on, leaving a good tail on the other end. Now take some waxed thread like you use for braiding and make a knot in the end. Starting in the slot, sew between each bead and BETWEEN the pieces of leather that make up the browband. Then, come back again past a stitch in the browband and sew the next bead, looping around the jewelry wire and going through the opposite side.Don’t pull tight…remember the browband has to curve over the horses forehead. When you get to the end, finish with a knot through the leather with the thread and switch back to the jewelry wire. Take the wire through the loop, put your crimp on and tighten it down. Again, remember that the browband has to curve, so give it a little play.
I made custom browbands for years and each crystal was hand sewn. They last forever.

Thank you for the tutorial!

I’m a bit afraid I would go bead-happy and end up with another flavor of tack-a-holic tendencies.

I bought one through ā€œI Love My Horseā€, a travelling tack store out of Holiday, FL. She comes to shows here in Ocala. I saw the one I wanted, but it was too small; she had it made in the 17" I needed, and with loops for a double - and it is perfect. $95. http://www.ilovemyhorse.biz/ but better on fb: https://www.facebook.com/ilovemyhorse.biz/

Love, love LOVE Janet Quinn and Crown Jewels Design - she does everything by hand and can create custom, one of a kind designs based on your horse, your style, and your price range!

She’s got a collection called Bling on a Budget that has some great stuff, too. She’ll work with you one on one to create something you want that ONLY your horse will have. She’ll even make a matching stock pin. She’s the best.

This! Incredibly cost effective (I think I got a single browband with two strands of interchangeable beads for an extremely reasonable price), and Amelia will work with you on a custom pattern. Originally I hadn’t planned to worry about a pattern, just told her to pick out something similar to one of her basic pics. She said it was no trouble to make up a few bead combos just to see if I liked anything, and they were great! She has a wonderful eye for color and pattern.

ETA: I’ve had my browband in steady rotation for about 4 years now, and both the browband and bead strands have held up with no problems.

Equiture! http://www.equiture.biz/

A lot of beautiful ones that have held up for several years under $50. Not bad shipping though it’s from Europe. I really like my cutback monocrown Weymouth bridle I got from them too.

So many choices, so little money! I want 10 horses just so I can have 20 browbands (1 for every day and 1 for show)!

I just this week ordered one from her, and she was fantastic to work with! So excited to see mine in person when it arrives… I love the mockup pattern pictures she sent!

The best browbands are from Solo Equine. If you don’t like what you buy they will give you your money back.

I really love the Dark Jewel Designs browbands and hope to get one for my next horse. Also really love the Topline browbands, but I doubt one will ever be in my budget.

For top of the line, unique, quality browbands Equine Couture is my favorite – she also sells bracelets and stock pins if you want to dip your toe in the water before buying – but she is at Devon and Rolex 3DE every year and her browbands are stunning.

I have an etsy shop too, it’s more of a hobby than a business, but I like to work with clients to make browbands to order. I have beads in stock and sample configurations at https://www.etsy.com/shop/BTBbrowbands?ref=l2-shopheader-name

You can also get empty channel browbands from Delfina Saddlery (no need to buy premade and rip out the beads!

I recently ordered from BlackJak Refinery and am very happy with my browband. Good quality leather, and she got it done super fast. It was in the mail the day after I ordered. She has several options that aren’t super sparkly.

I make swarovski crystal and beaded browbands  Started off with not being able to find one I like for under $200 (which is ridiculous) and now I really enjoy making them! Customs ones for $80 CND.
