Brown coats and boots in equitation?

I’ve been wanting brown field boots to school in (and maybe show in the jumpers with them).

That is a good point from the above poster who said brown boots are harder to polish and shine versus black boots. Something to consider (which I’d never heard of before).

I think a dark brown coat would be fine, but would stick with a black helmet and black boots for eq/medal classes. Save the colorful or “eccentric” clothing for jumpers!

Great ensemble, but knowing the traditions mentioned, I can’t resolve “brown boots,” “braided tail,” and “brown shadbelly.”[/QUOTE]

Which is fine. But Kristin has a solid resume…as well as a reputation for not really caring what other people think. As long as something is not against the rules, it’s a possibility with her. It’s kind of refreshing.

she also rides well enough to back it up.

Exactly. You’re going to stand out. Make sure you want to.

Yes.

The first time I sat with a judge at an A show we had an Adult Eq class (which I specifically remember was not directly before the AA hunters, because hunters got to go on the grass!) and a rider came in with rust breeches, white shirt and navy jacket.I also remember her dirty sheepskin half pad (cream, not white to begin with) and that she added and chipped, and also broke to the trot in one corner.
This was 5 years ago…
If you make the choice to go against the norm, you will stand out and be memorable- make that work in your favor, and not against you!!

I never found brown boots any harder to polish than black, its the same damn process. Hoof and Woof has an ad in the new PH with a pair of stunning brown boots and they have a beautiful shine.

If you wear brown or anything else that is different you are going to stick out, so what difference does it make if you have a good trip or not? And if you have a bad trip, do you really think wearing black boots, navy coat and tan breeches is going to help?

Thanks MHM, I expected that answer from you. Any decent judge would say the same.

OMG…was this me? LOL

I did for a couple shows wear rust breeches (like 5 years ago). I did get a lot of compliments from friends/other horse people at the show. I can’t remember my placings though…

If you were in Cali at the time, no, wrong coast

Pheww I swear I’ve added, chipped and trotted on course back in the day (not sure if I was wearing rust breeches at the time). But I’ve only shown in California.

I guess if you dress eccentric, you better be okay with being remembered as the girl who wore rust breeches and added, chipped and trotted in your eq class!

I had this same thought, but I’m also in Cali and it was at least 10 years ago. AND I would not show in a dirty pad. :).

If you thought that I was dissing this professional rider because of how she’s dressed, you have underestimated me. I’m not that petty. Honest to God, the thread was about the propriety of showing in brown boots and coat and I responded, on topic. This is how we got to my comment on the pro rider:

I said what I did about brown boots being incongruous with the other, more formal parts of their dress…someone else mentioned the traditional dress codes… then a good pro is offered as a model wearing brown.

And it looks awesome.

But that being untraditional doesn’t mean the model is a bad rider. Her being a great rider or not is entirely outside the limits of the discussion. She’s just someone showing us what a really great brown outfit could look like.

Sort of off topic but not really too far off topic. For those of you who are bold enough to wear brown boots in the ring, what belt do you wear? Has anyone found a cognac belt that matches their boots?
