…you can see how this can be misleading. For those of us who have been tricked year after year into waking up early, optimistically thinking that maybe THIS year will be the year we don’t have to watch individual rounds on delayed playback hours later with no commentary, it sucks. This is the best cross-country in the world. They have the ability to broadcast. But as for actually letting international fans watch said broadcast…I’ll believe it when I see it.
It’s not on FB in the UK on Saturday but it will be in the US.
I watched it live last year. It’s the same this year.
AND THE REST !!!
ANSWER;
“All day on livestream on fb”
https://www.facebook.com/BurghleyHorseInternational/
There seems to be different websites/streams for domestic/international.
UK = https://www.facebook.com/BurghleyHorse
INTERNATIONAL: = https://www.facebook.com/BurghleyHorseInternational/
I was unable to see the course walk on the Burghley site, it just wouldn’t play, but did see it on facebook even though I’m not a member.
The course looks really tough. For those with more expertise than I, (pretty much everyone) what do you think about CMP’s cross country course this year?
Blythe Tate course walk ??

I haven’t even looked at the course. Burghley always scares the crap out of me. And then most of them go right out and have no problem with the course! It fully deserves the respect we give it. I do believe it is the toughest course in the world
One of the commentators, when Andrea Baxter was riding, described the former Rolex as a 3*. And a British rider described this Burghley XC as a 4 1/2*. Does that tell us something about the differences between American and British eventing?
Yes, Burghley and Badminton have always been tougher than our Rolex. There are obvious “differences” and there are huge leaps in difficulty.
I am interested in the opinion of some of our eventing riders and owners and what they think of this particular Burghley course compared to previous Burghley courses, not to our used-to-be Rolex.
Nice to see Away Cruising got his s–t together!
Viney, I noticed that. I also noticed, don’t know if it stayed, but one of Indy’s scores was a .05. Don’t know if it was a mistake, but that was very surprising to me.
It’s definitely a tough one this year. I haven’t been in person in a few years but always watch the course previews.
There’s lots of terrain at Burghley - not really big hills, but you’re never really on the flat. CMP has changed some of the direction this year as well to add a big pull running up Winners Avenue to Cottesmore Leap.
The Trout Hatchery looks really challenging compared to previous years. Discovery Valley always catches people out. There’s a new ‘Vicarage Vee’ type angled log in what I think is called the Rolex Combination?, and the combination replacing the Dairy Mound looks harder than usual.
Totally agree the hardest event! I love the course and everything about Burghley. Hope to be able to go someday!
Thanks for the response. I thought it looked more difficult as well. Hope everyone gets around safely.
I think we need to see how the distances ride before we can determine how tough the course is relative to previous years. The jumps are always big and scary, but it’s how the combinations work on the day that tends to be the deciding factor in difficulty.
I do think there’s a lot to do toward the end of the course and I don’t think we’ll see many make the time.
I watched a lot of the dressage…I missed Mark Todd though. I felt the top dressage tests at Badminton were better…maybe missing some horses going to WEG? Looking forward to tomorrow!
FT, I watched all the dressage from badminton earlier this year, and I do think it was some of the best I have ever seen. I saw about half of the rides today and yesterday. I did see MT and TP who was exceptional. I would like to see him win myself. He seems to live in the shadow of his wife, and this would be huge for him. BTW, Buck did a good test too. (I hope that doesn’t jinx him!)
The dressage I saw did not have much pizzazz. Even mark todd’s wasnt anything super special but vey correct. One of the judges were super harsh to Ben way and galley light for a pretty decent test.
