Business As Usual

Business as Usual at Philly Park

Jay Budrewicz out as Delahoussaye’s ghost trainer. Insert H.W. Hepbron who will now be saddling Milwaukee Action in the 3rd race on Monday at Philadelphia Park. After being claimed from Ramon Preciado, this horse has ran under Jay Budrewicz twice and then Darrel Delahoussaye on June 1. Now Hepbron who has no career starts according to Brians Stats takes over the training duties.

Hello??? PA Racing Commission, where are you? Do you exist? Are there real human beings on Cameron Street who do anything other than cash their paycheck every two weeks???

All I have to say is I hope the State Vet does a THOROUGH exam in the receiving barn tomorrow. If I was Abel Mariano I would say a prayer before the race.

As I had told you before Dick, Budrewicz use to be Delahoussaye’s asst trainer.

If the state vets were worth their weight, many many horses would not be running.

This statement was made in the comments section under the article Dick just posted.
If not for the efforts of this person, this horse would have just disappeared… but the vigilance to keep policing the policies, ended with this horse safe.
And We think theres a big battle at PN? This gal has taken on the whole equine industry nationwide.

I am the national Equine Advocacy columnist for Examiner.com. The NYRA investigation into Ultimate Journey and how he landed in a NJ killpen was based on my original story, first published on Examiner.com on June 8th. You can read my story, with a photo of Ultimate Journey, here: http://www.examiner.com/x-37163-Equine-Advocacy-Examiner~y2010m6d8-Ultimate-Journey-finds-his-way-home Maureen Harmonay Equine Advocacy Examiner

*Note: Sounds like NY uses the *amish family* as code for the New Holland sale.[/QUOTE]

While it’s true that the Examiner published this story first, it was made known to many members of the media prior to that publication. It certainly was not a “scoop” - I, for one, found about this horse and his circumstances about 4 weeks ago.

Another thing I wanted to point out - early last year, a horse from the barn of the current leading trainer at Philadelphia Park was found at New Holland and rescued by Another Chance 4 Horses. Philly Park has a “no tolerance” policy, too … but this trainer said he had “sold the horse” and had “no idea” it ended up there. Actually the horse raced at Philly in mid-January and was found at New Holland in early February. Anyway, despite the “no tolerance” policy, the track believed the trainer and only fined him $300. This was because the trainer agreed to take the horse back! So when push comes to shove, most of these tracks won’t take the drastic action they promise.

Marcus Vitali’s actually.
Vitali is Michael Gill’s Boston trainer. This is how all this stuff ties together and the buck stops with Michael Gill.

Another interesting fellow that deserves looking into is an Edward Longo. This individual was listed as owner for many of Budrewicz’ horses. Interesting thing about him is he has never been seen by anybody anywhere, does the same aggressive claiming and almost identical business operation as Gill. Many folks are starting to think Longo and Gill might be the same guy. Is something worth looking into.

Oh, crap. Somewhat off point, but Hepbron/Longo claimed hard-trying Reptilian Smarts from R. Dutrow’s barn at MTH on the first weekend of the meet. Was so hoping he went to a good barn.

How do you believe somebody and then fine them $300?

Perhaps before he was with Vitali, but recently he was or IS currently Delahoussayes asst trainers and just running the horses under Budrewicz name when they ship out.

Its been very hard recently to get accurate information.

Because he agreed to take the horse back. I am still pretty peeved at this decision.

I know of whore houses that are more efficiently run than the Pennsylvania State Racing Commission. At least there when you get screwed, you get something positive out of it. While the racing commission just sits back while permitting corrupt racing practices, unsafe conditions for riders and horses, does nothing about fixed races or hidden owners and remains generally inactive over the prospect of being sued. I am specifically referring to the complete lack of regulation of rules and procedures. Licensing of felons, not requiring proper track maintenance, allowing Delahoussaye to run under other names(as well as countless other offenders), poor penalties for positive drug tests, paramutuel fraud through weight fixing and riders not trying punishable by only thirty days, lack of adequate horse drug testing, allowing a racing secretary to take large gratuities in return for personal favors, hiring politically connected bozos with no knowledge of the business, and not requiring the racetracks to have properly qualified medical personnel, resulting in the extreme tragedy at Phila Park. Not to mention taking no action against the animal unfriendly environment where vets are not accessible during training hours and a horse ambulance is a pipe dream.

And how do we attempt to make things better? By scolding our concerned employees and making them feel uncomfortable for caring enough to do their jobs. By believing in a policy of silence, while we pray that things such as forged Coggins just go away. By making the good apples in the group feel like villains when they publicly attempt to correct a major issue. We run to our trembling, sweaty palmed lawyer, Jorge Augusto, to see if taking corrective action is worth being sued. And all of this at the expense of the betting public who continues to be victimized by this tone of apathy.

If I was a high ranking official in the PA Racing Commission, I would brush my teeth every morning with a ski mask on. That way I could avoid vomiting from the sight of my dreadful worthless face. From that point I would March into my office on Cameron Street, refuse my next paycheck, resign my position, and immediately prepare a speech begging the taxpayers of Pennsylvania to not press charges against me for taking money under the false pretenses of doing an adequate job. I would then go home and beat myself with a tough leather strap until I passed out from the pain. But that’s just me— I still have a conscience

Integrity

“But that’s just me— I still have a conscience”

I have found that in horse racing, the big players and influencers have no integrity. When given the opportunity to really produce on behalf of the health and welfare of the horses, they choose to turn their backs, close their eyes and ears, and open up their hands to accept all the money they can.
KY governor signed a bill regarding health and welfare of the horse, just in time for the World Equestrian Games. Yet the Kentucky Racing Commission’s chief veterinarian does not want to know anything regarding the injury to horses that is the primary cause of breakdowns, etc. Where is the compassion for these horses, who are in reality, our ‘prisoners’, confined to a cell 22/23 hours a day, deprived of interaction with the other members of the herd, deprived of proper amount of physical exercise.

Principles of Life:
‘Integrity’
An uncompromising adherence to a dode of moral, artistic, or other values: utter sincerity, honesty, & candor:avoidance of deception, expediency, artificiality, or shallowness of any kind"
‘Respect’
To show consideration for, to avoid intruding upon, to noitice with special attention, to regard to consider; view, treat or consider with some degree of courtesy"
Trust’
"Confidence; a reliance or seting of the mind on the ntegrity, veracity, justice, friendship, or other sound rinciple of another person or thing]

The Commission is investigating the incident in which Pigmaleon broke down during training and there was no vet or ambulance available.

According to his trainer, the horse had to be walked up a hill to get him to a barn, which rendered the injury fatal, if it wasn’t already.

Another embarrasing moment for the Commission and Penn National. They’ll never be shamed into fixing the place as long as the place is supervised by Christopher McErlean and Rob Marella.

I have not read through this whole thread, so I apologize if I am asking something already covered… if I am if someone would be kind enough to shoot me a pm to shut up, I will gladly.

Anyway, I live not too far from Penn Nat’l and have heard many references to “Underground Slaughter” that is being run out of a facility near me. I always see the double decker trailers pull in there at dusk and they are gone by morning… is there any truth to this? I dont want to go into further detail on an open forum, but I am curious if this is true or not.

“Moe Larry Curly” , you hit the nail right on the head with your post. does this place do anything that isn’t bathed in corruption? I firmly believe that if Charles Manson was left out of prison tomorrow and surfaced at Penn National wanting to train horses that the commission would open their arms and grant him a license. and we would probably see rob marella standing in the racing office with his arm around him treating him like a hero. and Paul Jenkins would be fighting Marella to get to him to play “lets make a deal”. charley, just bring those free lunches and hand over a stuffed white envelope every friday and everything will be fine. and, oh, don’t forget you gotta use John krulock’s riders, that’s part of the deal.

They’ll be tripping over each incident…
since they cant address one before another occurs (6-12@9:38am)
Maybe Jim Tracy should just copy MP’s letter and just fill in the different dates…?

Update 6/16/10 - Investigation Moves Forward

It is with great regret that I report the investigation at Penn National into the racing office and various trainers is on the verge of being shutdown. According a source familiar with the investigation there has been a change in the past week and the Dauphin County DA is not going to pursue charges against some who were thought to be in danger of being arrested, including Darrel Delahoussaye.

As hard as it is for me to post this on something I’ve tried hard to make a difference with, I must as always post what I know to be the truth even if it makes me ill.

I give up. There is no reforming Penn National.

EDIT 6/16/10: The investigation is not over. It is continuing despite several difficulties along the way and many dead ends.

Business As Usual

Ed Marsico Could Do Better.

Well, I’ll be damned…

Sure they are double decks? A lot of people see large, semi-sized stock trailers and assume they are doubles when they aren’t. Just be sure. If they are, and there are horses in them, be persistent and call the cops. I believe it is fully illegal to use them for horses in PA (federally, it is only illegal to use them to ship to slaughter).

Anyway, I’m guessing you live near one of the big dealers - he probably buys up large numbers of horses at places like New Holland, then ships them up. And probably also takes horses “direct to kill” - the ‘underground’ you refer to, as they don’t go through sales where they might be found/purchased by the public - from tracks and other local sources.

There’s a couple of them around.

Dick, I am terribly saddened to read your post. Is there anythinig that can be done? Letter writing, e-mailing, etc?
