Bye bye Baby Bear. You were a very good boy. :(

I am having nerve complications following my second hip surgery in November. I would have chewed my own leg off if I could have reached it. Gabapentin mercifully took the pain away and left the numbness and tingling. So glad it is working for your guy as well.

Finally some really good news…we’ve been praying for you and Bear. Hang in there, you’re doing a GREAT job.

Thank goodness - I’ve been really worried for you…we do have to be advocates and ask questions…the university hospitals are staffed by veterinary students on a rotation, so things can slip between the cracks.

Went through a similar thing with my MIL last year - could not get info out of them. She was 92 and eventually passed away after being on all sorts of medical cocktails which gave her drug induced delirium and was a horrible way to end her days.

I think your communication with them was excellent btw. And to see the vet so pleased is heartwarming … they learn from every patient, as do their students.

YAY!!! Jingles that he’ll be home on Monday.

I’ve known a few horses that spent decent stretches on Gabapentin, and all tolerated it extremely well.

Another YAY ! So glad he’s finally better !

I’m so happy to hear this news.
And another YAY! for Bear.

Whew! This was not going well early this morning but now looks like it will end well. We warmbloods stand by our offer of a dribble. Because you OP are looking at next year’s show budget by next week. Hope all works out well and the old Bear gets many more years out of life.

What good news! I am so glad to hear it!

I have been following along with my fingers crossed. Very glad to hear good news.

I take Gabapentin for nerve pain. Works a treat. Can give one rather colorful dreams, however!

Does Gabapentin work for sciatica?

Thank the powers that be. I’ve been checking this every few hours dreading what might be in the next update. Good for Bear, he’s not done yet.

I would happily offer a dribble as well. Crowd funding means little pain for the givers compared to the relief for the indebted. Please consider it!

Twelvegates is right. It won’t hurt us a bit, and will help Bear with his recovery. And it’s not charity, it’s paying it forward to help out a horse whose owner really cares for him at 25 yoa.

Please note Twelvegate’'s sig line. It’s so true.

That is such good news. Fingers crossed for a good weekend for the man!

So much for having a talk about communication with the surgeon… The result was no call at all tonight. Passive-aggressive much?
My friends have tried to convince me that no news is good news, but I really wanted to be reassured that the good news of this morning was still good news tonight.

Ahh well…

What about the staph infection? Does it respond to antibiotics?

The staph infection is another hot topic. I was told that the results from the culture would be back Tuesday. But, evidently, “Tuesday” is an amorphous concept, which includes every other day of the week as well as the named day. And evidently I am nit picking when I try to pin down which other day of the week might also be called “Tuesday”.

Since no definitive result has yet to be discovered, Bear is still on the “every 4 day” general antibiotic that my horse Sherman was on when he became septic and died.

Bear still has massive gobular discharge from the incision. 3 years ago I took Sherman to NC State because he had a bad staph infection and I wanted a vet to get on top of his condition. It looks like now I will have to bring Bear home to have someone aggressively manage his staph infection.

MEOW…

Some weekend Br-ingles for Bear and his family ~

Jingles laced with extra strength and patience for his continued progress ~

Rest and recovery for All ~ it’s been a rough tough week !

Hang in there ``` you two are getting closer to discharge every day ~[/B]

I’m so sorry you’re going through Bear and hope he’s feeling better soon. I do think the first person that gave you an ETA for culture results was probably just incorrect - most positive cultures take 5, sometimes 7 days to get final results. Some bacteria just take longer to grow than others. When I have a negative culture I’ll often know that in 3 days (because there are no bacteria to identify and test against different antibiotics).

The rest of the communication issues…
