C4 belts as neck strap. Safe?

Trust me, GT, you’re preaching to the choir on the quality tack question! The Bartville one is astonishingly nice, though more workmanlike than elegant. Attachments will work with it too.
If Emily is shopping for you no worries. Bartville is a trip back in time for those who have never been there. No glitz no glamour. But a great selection of just about everything, old school and new. If you have aging eyes bring your “readers” the gas lights don’t exactly light the place up on a cloudy day.

Their tack repair can be “workmanlike” if you don’t get specific with them. It’s done well but they don’t exactly go out of their way to match leather type, color etc.

I need to dig out my Bartville yoke. I bought it for my (large) tb and it was too big, but it should fit my draft x. (Bartville’s sizing can be a little funny sometimes).

“Bartville’s sizing can be a little funny sometimes”

lol, yup. I asked them to show me their yard stick to see if it was the same as the one I am using.

So are you saying that all of WFP’s horses are “NAUGHTY PONIES” or just that it’s okay to use a neckstrap as long as you can’t see it?
No, I use them a lot (or a running martingale yoke if they are wearing one, don’t double up if they already have one of those) but I think the bright colors are ugly when it comes to neckstrapville. Whatever, different people like different stuff. That’s not the area I prefer eyes to be drawn in my attire.

OP didn’t ask “when do you use neckstraps”. And I wrote “as much as I love neckstraps.” You sure are looking for things that aren’t there! I just don’t care to have bright colored safety devices. My other safety items are conservative colors too.

It is always “ok” to use one and I hope I made that clear when I said it was fine to use C4 belts but I didn’t find them attractive personally! That is different than “ok.” It isn’t like anyone appointed me the fashion police. Plenty of people apparently like colored neckstraps. In which case they should use 'em if they want.

I think simple leather is classy, not a crime.

I am an ambassador for C4. I use them and they are perfect for it. Super durable and they will hold up

kh_eventing - endorsing using an item of apparel as a safety device is a great way to get the manufacturer and you sued and is likely to prompt an end to your time as an ambassador.

I have a C4 as a belt and love it. As I hopped off my horse last weekend after an awesome XC run, the buckle caught on my saddle and broke. Seems the wide belt would be too wide. I love my leather neck strap. Don’t need it often but great to have it just in case.

They will send you a replacement plus a second one if you contact them. I broke mine squeezing through a metal opening on our round bale holders. I contacted them just to see if I could buy a replacement buckle (not an option to buy the buckle only on the website) and they said they’d replace it and send me a second one for just the shipping fee ($6). I was happy with that.

They are in the process of sending me 2 new ones.

Bumping this back up to see if there are any new stories out there. I’m super tempted to buy the skinny “Oh Crap” belt as a neck strap…it’s just so funny!

My plastic buckle randomly broke through the middle, so I would certainly not use one of those on a neck strap. I would think the ones made to function as a neck strap would have a metal buckle? Those should be fine (although they seem to scratch really easily).

I use one, never had a problem.

The plastic buckle on mine broke in the middle of showjumping. I don’t even trust them to hold my pants up.

I have had my C4 buckle pop apart while wearing them as a belt. I would never want to rely on it for a neck strap.

Ditto for both my boyfriend and I. Definitely wouldn’t use it as a neck strap.
