California Chrome/ Santa Anita race today

This horse has been such a blessing for the sport, drama llama and all!

That may well be his most impressive win yet. Sharp fractions, then easy as you like in the stretch.

Man, this horse is aging like a fine wine. It’s almost as if he blossomed once the clown show was left behind him.

I’ve been a fan of his since day one. So thankful we’ve been given the chance to follow him through such a fantastic career.

He’s finished up his last couple races in a geared down canter, it’d be nice to see what he can do when really pressed that last 1/8th of a race.

What time?
Sigh, it was in my post  PT was Pacific Time (if it follows the time). If PT is before the time, Post Time

Beholder again got headed by Stellar Wind. Good race but she just didn’t have it. If it were up to me, I would not put her in the Classic.

CC, nothing bad to say, Dortmund took it to him until about the top of the stretch and then it was a hand ride the rest of the way.

American Cleopatra I am thinking is not her brother :frowning:

Runhappy was off the board in the Ack Ack at CD. Maybe this means all the Runhappy commercials on TVG will stop… I have no idea why they are advertising him so heavily.

Nice day of stakes racing across the country. Sloppy tracks at Belmont and Laurel.

Currently on my way home from Arcadia (not the one driving )

What a day of racing. OMG, Secret House! We watched him break from the gate and went WTF, he hasn’t got a jockey! But that was great for John Sherrifs to get a winner with Gormley.

Chrome was the king. The roar of the crowd just for him, the crowd packed 4 or 5 deep on the walking ring rail or how everyone just cheered for him as he walked past in the post parade. He’s got a hell of a lotta fans.

Was amusing after the race from my vantage point near the winner’s circle entry as I watched a bunch of fans try to get in, and were turned away by the guards. Too many ninnies trying to get their moment of “glory” and no sense. Including someone who ought to know better (yeah, the crazy lady with the dumb outfits)

Right before the finish, Raffie gave Dortmund the signal to go. Course, nobody was catching Chrome, but Dortmund did pass him in the gallop out. Hmmm, race strategizing for the Classic, perhaps?

Stellar Wind was acting all snorty and higher than a kite in the walkover from the receiving barn. Wonder if she was extra in her toes. But what a race.

I haven’t watched the race (posted link doesn’t work on my phone) but I would guess the fact that CC was geared down meant more than Dortmund gearng up on the gallop out.

This I would agree. The gap was closing but not because Dortmund was going faster but CC was easing back to a canter (or so it looked).

Yeah, forgot about Secret House leaving the gate sans jock  I watched and re-watched the break. The head on was a bit more clear. A bit of bad timing in conjunction with lack of communication. Jock was stepping off just as the gates opened…

Holy cow he didn’t even break a sweat!! And Dortmund gave it all he had. You know AP may have won the TC, but CC has won my heart. It is fun to see a horse doing this beyond 3 yrs old, it really is!
Chrome is a beast!

I’d wished a “Clown Car” had not owned Spectacular Bid.

Since he’s a TC winner and she’s a filly, not really surprising. She didn’t seem to like the distance so maybe she’s not a two-turn horse, or maybe she’s not mature enough yet. But anyone expecting to see her be as dominant as her brother is going to be disappointed. He’s about the only horse that might have been able to dethrone Chrome this year without having to pray for Chrome to have the worst racing luck in history. And even Espinoza doesn’t seem to think that would be very likely! (No, I don’t think Songbird would make a meaningful dent if they decided to skip the easy money and go for the Classic instead of the Distaff, and yes, right now I think she beats Beholder and Stellar Wind. Beholder, btw, IS going in the Distaff. Yesterday apparently clinched it, but after not even being able to make Chrome sweat in the Pacific Classic I think they knew the writing was on the wall.)

The big surprise was Flintshire today, but he doesn’t like it when it’s wet so this may be a toss.

IMO, being a filly shouldn’t rule a horse out

Today in France, a filly, Found, won the Arc, one of the most prestigious races in Europe, over a full field of the boys:) She’s also the same filly that took the Turf Classic last year as I recall.

Aiden O’Brien swept the top 3 positions.

Secret House was acting up badly and the jock stepped off. Then he settled down, and the jock tried to get back on, but he hopped again, so he could’nt get settled. Starter opened the gates and the jock was only half on, so he stepped off. Bad on the starter.

Sure looked easy. If Dortmund was 17 hands at three yrs old I wonder how tall he is now. He’s also pretty solid.
He towered over Chrome. Was also wondering how tall he is now.

But California Chrome certainly has had the class this year.

Just Spectacular!!! Thank you to the owners for showing him what a race horse should do… not run immediately to the breeding shed!!

I was watching on the TV and she looked like she was going to jump right out of her skin when she was waiting for the gate handler to take her from the Pony horse, she was all lit up with radar ears and eyes bugging out at who knows what over to one side, couldn’t tell but thinking it was the crowd.

CC was very obviously eased before he went under the wire, no challenge to gallop past him.

Very good telecast on NBCSports network. Good, well researched commentary, lots of racing, no dead time and thoughtful editorial comments…like wondering how many will opt for the Mile to avoid CC leaving a reduced field for the Classic. Maybe a European shipper that’s not a household name over here except for die hard fans can match him?

They didn’t say much about that three ring ownership circus but his record shows he has certainly blossomed since it dissolved and we are all better for that.

Art Sherman has commented a couple of times about the owners being so great. I wondered if he was just talking about the current (not past) owners.
