A caslick is put in by removing skin on each side of the vulva and then stitching it together temporarily, until it grows together. Stitches are then removed and you have a permanent joining, until the caslick is opened. It then has to be cut apart. I have had a few mares with a caslick put in, and none of them have ever come apart once healed and the stitches removed. Clearly your caslick is still in the stitch phase, which I suppose could come apart.
