Back to the subject of roaching: I had my horse’s mane roached for a season and I loved it. Many people commented that they just assumed his braids were on the opposite side of his neck from where they were looking, and it took a few minuets for them to realize that it was actually roached. I don’t think judges care at all, its the trainers that seem to take an issue with it.
Roaching is also very common with foxhunters, and isn’t that the traditional look that y’all are going for?
@PNWjumper I should clarify and apologize: I was a bit unfair and hyperbolic with my “scorn” comment. That was unkind, and I apologize.
My comment was centered on the OP’s description of braiding at “BIG” shows. In my mind, that means Devon, Washington, etc. At shows of that ilk, I believe that most everyone participating has access to grooms, etc. I completely get the need to be efficient when you’re doing a lot of the heavy-lifting yourself.
In my experience, at the “BIG” shows, braids would be re-done daily.
