Canadian Eventers came together to denounce EC

I read it. Blugal couldn’t have summarized it better.

I read the whole thing, and it stinks of BS and CYA.

There is also this response from Equestrian Canada - Eventing Committee

Wow. The money. THE MONEY $$$$$$$!!!

$1,097,500 from Sport Canada
$266,000 from the COC

You can’t imagine what this looks like to me. My Canadian sport, modern pentathlon, which quad after quad qualifies athletes for the Olympics (no easy feat at all) does all of that with $0 from Sport Canada and maybe a few thousand in ‘solidarity’ money from the COC, which is sort of a welfare program for Olympic sports that aren’t ‘targeted’ sports (never mind that we’re more successful than some targeted sports).

That EC gets this kind of money (some of which is public) and is so irresponsible and reprehensible is truly sickening.
How do you know it’s garbage since you haven’t read it for yourself?
Well other than adding the EC says trust us…this is all a work in progress, Blugal pretty much nailed it.

I did read it.

I read it and summed it up as “Short version: they could have communicated better, everything is fine, we’re sticking with the status quo, shut up”

The only part I could agree with is the part about communication. Everything is FAR from fine. The status quo is driving membership and skills away to the detriment of the sport

I will not shut up. I can’t disagree more forcefully with the part about the wrongness of airing ‘dirty laundry’. Sunlight cleanses and fresh air clears the stink of things gone bad, both literally and metaphorically.

and yet our membership fees continue to rise with nothing in return…

I read that last night and blasted them yet again on Twitter.

I love how they are pissed we are airing their dirty laundry. Well they better buckle up.

Thank you.

You’ve seen our woefully unfunded sport up close and so you know how hard we work and also the quality of our ALL volunteer organization – coaches, board, admin, everything – and self-funded athletes.

We work with nothing except a love of our sport and a determination to have an enthusiastic grassroots, a development program and world-class athletes. And we succeed at it.

Then you see corrupt, unaccountable, unapologetic EC, taking in seven-figures of Sport Canada money and handing out no-bid contracts to relatives.

What we could do with even 5% of their money…

EC better get ready, we aren’t ready to just shut up and sit down like they think we should.

As membership holders, we do have a say. We can demand a step down, or demand more transparency. It’s been done with other organizations, EC is not special in any way to think they are untouchable.

That statement is just hilarious. They pretty much admitted they need to communicate better, but other than that, are saying everyone is happy with the CEO and President. There is no conflict of interest? Really, Mushroom Cloud, which wasn’t voted on, is not a conflict of interest? Um no… you’re wrong EC. Time for them to listen to the paying members.

We lost our vote but not our voice.

I thought it was worse than this. They didn’t say there was no conflict of interest, they said they had approved the conflicts of interest so it was all good and nothing to see here!

Its not ok, not by a GD long shot.

Since they get so much money from Sport Canada, why not put together a packet of materials including screen shots of EC’s internet postings and send it to them. Raise a stink at that level. EC seems to be pretty well dug in with what they are doing.

And in the stink, raise the question of eligible athletes in governance, per the IOC 2000 recommendation.

It is crazy the Pentathletes get no funding, yet EC spends over $100k on a Para horse?

I totally thought I read that wrong where they said they approved the conflict. Who did? Jorge? Is this real life.

And they say EC members voted for the by law changes. UM for the record when that was happening, no one knew what the hell anything was about. It was so confusing and poorly worded. Hardly anyone voted. They had us over their knee and we just took the spanking.

Someone needs to look into Noelle Asmar and see if there is a relation to any of the EC board members also. I would put money on it there is. Why else would EC change their entire statement, name, etc EVERYTHING and basically say it was to introduce their clothing as our new “branding”.

EC you might have gotten away with this with the hunters, dressagers, and jumpers…but you made a mistake when you messed with the eventers!

Shows how little they know about us. Everyone knows eventers are crazy. This ship is going DOWN.

Can we write a similar letter to Sport Canada Please?

Canadian Pony Club has made a statement on EC;

I see Jen Holling is no long on the Eventing Committee, I felt she was the most passionate and really fighting for the riders. Sad to see her go.

Story here.

Wow. I feel bad for Lauren. I don’t think EC should be in the ownership game. At all.

I honestly don’t have a problem with them owning horses to better our chances at World Events. I’m pretty certain NZ does this for their riders.

I just don’t like how it played out for her.

This is total speculation, I don’t know any facts or details. Jen Holling’s departure may also have been contributed by the rumour that Rob Stevenson owns a horse/horses for her husband.
