SHN Carriage driving 07
Back from Nationals, sorry I hadn’t check this thread for awhile
The low down…
I believe that the driving classes at SHN’s are definately growing and the classes were full of lovely turned out horse/driver combinations.
My personal opinion is that the ring chosen was wayyyy to small for the amount of carriages per cut, there were 9 in my go, five 2 wheel carriages and four 4 wheel, plus one was with a pair, it was congested and a bit hard to maneuver.
There were no mishaps during the classes, there was however a wreck outside near the barns, someone broke the golden rule and removed a bridle while the horse was still hooked to the cart, 2 people were injured and a few trucks as well.
I did not make the cuts in my classes, but was very pleased with my young stallion’s performance, he was the youngest entered in driving and carried himself well, he was nervous during the first class whenever we were passed by another vehicle, whcih happened alot ! I stayed on the rail but the other drivers seemed to use the center of the arena much more, it is possible that if we were in a good size arena this may not have been the case, or maybe they were just making sure to catch the judges eye, not sure. I did have some poeple come visit my stall afterward and complimented Spirit on his gorgeous movement
All in all, I enjoyed myself and am looking forward to going to Kentucky in 2009 to try it again.
Here’s pix of Spirit & me taken by a friend…
