I just leave my Rubbermaid wheelbarrow in the horse area of the trailer when not in use, bed of the truck when shipping. The last thing I want to do on Sunday of an event is make any more trips to the manure pile than I have to because I have a dinky bucket.
Our vet clinic has one of those in one exam room and they say it is hard to dump and clean, kind of unhandy then, otherwise is a very nice one.
I am not sure that, for a manure bucket, a smaller one and a folding manure/sacks/bales cart as some shown above may not be a better mousetrap?
Then keep the canvas folding one for all other items?
Those would work fine for carting stuff back and forth, other than manure.
The trouble with wheelbarrow type ones is that it takes both hands for those, unlike all others you can drag one handed along by a handle.
That is so much easier on your back.
A friend had a collapsible metal wagon similar to this one that she really liked, great at shows -
That one looks interesting, one hand operation too, always easier than wheelbarrows.
Similar to the newer handy-dandy canvas ones, that maybe are more stable with four wheels and considerably cheaper.
As far as tack goes, I keep everything in my horse trailer. No way Iām dragging all that into the barn! Itās much easier to take the horse to the trailer. I need to walk them a little bit anyway to keep them moving (my guys are not used to being confined to a stall so they get very frequent hand walks.)
So I canāt be any help there.
Itās great over literally any terrain (pavement, gravel, uneven grass, etc.) and easy to push even when youāve got 4 saddles piled on and a couple of backpacks worth of stuff (well, āeasyā may not be the right word, but easier than making multiple trips!). I have started locking my I-donāt-care-if-they-get-stolen saddles in tack trunks in my tack stall most nights, but Iām way too chicken to leave my couldnāt-live-without-them saddles anywhere. I usually wheel the cart in and leave it as a saddle rack in the corner. But I also have hanging racks and saddle stands, and so it just depends on the show and how much room there is in the tack stall.
I will say that when I have a helper with me I usually forego the cart and have each of us carry a saddle back to the truck at the end of the day, because that is still easier than the cart.
I have one of these- https://www.amazon.com/Bosmere-W302-Folding-Wheelbarrow/dp/B004H5IM4K
Itās not the sturdiest or easiest to dump, but it packs flat, and gets the job done, carrying both poop and equipment.
I take a muck bucket and a collapsible muck bucket cart for picking out stalls daily. That handles it. For the big cleanout at the end, I take a tarp and just toss the stall bedding out on that and then drag it to the manure pile. An extra hand is helpful if itās particularly heavy, but it saves a ton of work.
Wow, thanks for all the advice and suggestions! Thereās no magic bullet here, but still lots of useful information, and itās helpful to hear what others are doing. Iām still not sure what to do, but I have a lot to think about! I think I am leaning against a wheelbarrow; I think Iāll end up expending more effort having to lift it in and out of truck beds & DRs, and resenting having to constantly figure out how to stow it and store it. The goal is to make my life easier, not to have another āthingā to deal with. It would be different if it was something I used at the barn and could just throw into an empty area of the trailer.
I am very interested in one of those canvas wagons. It seems like you could gain a lot of convenience in a relatively compact and easy to store package.
For muckingā¦muck bucket and collapsible cart might be the way to go. I can store a muck bucket in my truck bed easily. But I still kind of like that little green bucket thing that Schneiders sells. It too could be tied into a truck bed, and itās one easy piece to deal with.
One thing I wonāt be doing, though, is tacking up my horses at the trailer - I absolutely hate doing that! Climbing in and out of the tack room, dealing with their tack, slinging on saddles and tightening girths and bridling, and also trying to get on all my own gear and make sure my coat and hair and etc. are all properly adjusted, all while trying to keep my eye on fidgety tied horses (I guess mine would be utter failures as eventers who all seem to be just fine with this) just makes me stressed out. Sure I hate loading and unloading, but the horses and I are far calmer working out of stalls/tack stalls!
Here is the one I saw in Home Depot, one more option:

The handle telescopes, so it would not use as much room to store, only the bucket itself.
Target and TSC also carry those.
I have a flimsy garden muck tub that has handles. It is pretty smooshy, so you can esily toss it and pack it down. https://www.gardeners.com/buy/colorful-garden-tubtrug/37-027+++PS.html?utm_campaign=PLA&utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_source=google&SC=XNET9771&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIstmwicXB2gIVj7XACh3yyQdaEAQYEiABEgKuJPD_BwE&kwid=productads-adid^214065455012-device^c-plaid^347049105337-sku^37@ADL4027%20%20%20PS-adType^PLA
We use this for mucking stalls https://www.sstack.com/stable_barn-supplies_forksmuck-cartswheelbarrows/dura-tech-multi-purpose-muck-cart/ .
Personally I wouldnāt haul equipment in the muck tub too much work to get it clean. We have a semi collapsible metal wagon, the sides fold down on it, and since Iāve downgraded my trailer Iām looking for a totally collapsible. I like to save space where ever I can because there is never enough room!!!
Ihave not read the replies⦠I use a small cart that dumps. I use it at home when feeding; I use it at shows to haul stuff from the trailer to the stall and for manure removal during the show. Afterwards it helps me get stuff back to the trailer. It travels in the bed of my truck (I have a BP).
